Founded in 1994 by Al Powers, Powers Guaranteed Services (PGS) began by providing standby generator installation and service to the New England area. Over 28 years later, we have grown from a one-person operation to a company of over 70 valuable staff members and technicians who align on our core values of integrity, service, and communication, and we keep our word to our customers by consistently applying these values to each job we perform. PGS proudly employs licensed electricians, gas fitters, and EGSA-Certified generator service technicians (a certification which is earned by only a few generator technicians in the Northeast). Our factory-trained staff is continually expanding their knowledge to ensure we stay current on the latest developments within the industry.

"1) Installation with somewhat unique location and entrance into the house of electrical and gas lines. Electricians and Gas Pipefitter did excellent quality work, timely, neat, good steady pace throughout the day, including inevitable trouble-shooting. Site well-cleaned up afterwards. 2) & 3) Annual service agreements for both generator and minisplits always timely, well-executed, skilled personnel, and always polite."

We provide the required, but often overlooked annual deep cleaning of your Mini Split Heat Pump so you don't have to! Most owners don't realize manufacturers recommend a complete deep cleaning for these units once per year to provide healthy air, cost effective heating and cooling, and extend the life of the heating and cooling system. We deconstruct, detail hand-wash, and pressure wash your Mini Split Heat Pumps and then fully deep clean and pressure wash the interior coil system to remove mold, mildew, pollen, dander, and other allergens completely from your unit. This not only immediately and drastically improves your indoor air quality, it also immediately reduces your energy consumption and costs associated with running an uncleaned unit. We are a family-owned and operated business out of Charlestown, NH, that started by simply meeting a family need. Like most people, we thought cleaning our pull-out filters was enough. When our installer explained that our unit wasn't functioning properly because we had never deep cleaned it, we got to work and removed a staggering amount of build up from inside it. We immediately began noticing in countless local restaurants, offices, gas stations, and shops, the units on their walls and ceilings were visibly blowing around debris or dripping contaminated fluids, most likely from the same lack of proper cleaning. With five children in our home, asthma, allergies, and a dog, as soon as we learned the significance of deep cleaning and saw the difference it made, we decided to help people who are in the same situation we were. Having seen the importance of deconstructing and deep cleaning our Mini Split Heat Pump for our own family, and seeing the immediate difference it made in our air quality and utility bills, we are grateful for the opportunity to serve our community, providing a healthier, more comfortable environment for them and their families.

"Beware of dishonesty. Sometime in February 2023 my tankless boiler system was making a loud clicking sound. It turned out the 3-way valve actuator was broken. EarthTech Systems' technicians came and ascertained the situation and quoted me for the replacement of the part. They advised that the part was difficult to find because it's no longer manufactured but they'd look. Two days later they came and replaced the broken item with no further advice to me. I was at that point a happy customer and I paid my invoice and I was thinking this story was behind me. Two months later I discovered that the system had been leaking at the exact juncture between the 3-way valve and the pipe, which indicated to me that this was not a perfect fit. So I called the company and one of the owners Terry came to check it out but he guaranteed me on the phone that the leak was coming from the pipe inside the concrete beneath my floor, per his experience. When I told him I had pictures of before and after the leak he was less argumentative. When he showed up he agreed that the leak was at the boiler level and not in the ground. I asked what his team is able to do to make me whole again. Long story short, they sent me another quote for $3,000 or so in order to replace some of the pipes to fit with the 3-way valve. I argued that they should make me whole for poor workmanship. Terry responded that his team takes zero responsibility in the aftermath of the project they initially completed. Now I'm left with water damage in my kitchen and a broken boiler. I do not recommend this company to anyone who expects honest or professional work."

Heating and Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

The cost of a new HVAC system is roughly $7,500 but will vary by the type of HVAC unit and the size of your home. If you only need to replace your AC, it can cost between $2,200 and $5,500; replacing your furnace costs $3,200 to $6,000.

Air conditioners can stop working in the middle of the night for many reasons. Your local power grid might shut down late at night. Power surges can also trip your breakers if too much power is being used in the area at the time. If your AC is connected to a digital thermostat, it gets naturally cooler at night, so the outdoor temperature might dip below the automated setting to turn the cooling system off.

There are several steps you can take to prevent your AC drain from clogging. This includes cleaning the drain line at least every three months, changing the filter every one to three months, and getting your AC serviced annually. Also, if any problems arise with your AC, hire an HVAC technician to deal with them ASAP.

Troubleshooting common issues with your AC often sheds light on a problem with the compressor. Signs that you need to replace a bad compressor include your AC blowing warm air, short cycling (turning on and off), making strange noises, and blowing less air overall. Since these problems can stem from several areas of your AC, always call a local AC repair team to confirm it's the compressor.

A common HVAC rule is that for every 500 to 600 square feet of living space, you need 1 ton of heating or cooling capacity. Now that you know this common rule, you also need to know that it isn’t very accurate, and a dedicated pro wouldn’t use it for your home. If you talk to a pro who won’t or can’t perform a proper Manual J calculation, consider hiring someone more thorough.
