"Found Sentri on Angi. Jeanette and Violet were very pleasant and efficient in getting a contractor to me in the time frame needed. The contractor was excellent and the roof looks great! I would definitely work with them again if I had additional projects."

"Oliver Druen, OD Carpentry is top notch. Five stars is not distinctive enough for his work ethic; his customer service; his ability to be flexible and change a project as needed. I had originally hired Oliver for a simple 10 x 16 deck with steps on either side. Soon, I realized my senior dog would need a ramp. He changed the design and created a beautiful ramp on one side and due to my property, we had to change the second ramp to stretched out low profile steps. He created the most beautiful deck I have ever seen. I also needed repairs on my older deck, which he did without any problem. Finally, my old porch top I wanted to re purpose as a stand alone flat entryway to the back of my car, which he also made it happen. I fully recommend Oliver Druen. He is a local contractor, a family man and rescues all of his pets! If you need someone to do an incredible job, please consider hiring Oliver Druen. I have future jobs lined up for him to do in the spring!"

Carpentry questions, answered by experts

When hanging a door frame, it’s recommended that you use screws, not nails. Screws are more secure, easier to tighten, and easier to remove if you need to adjust the frame. On average, the cost to replace a door frame is about $400, but you can save on labor costs if you’re confident in your ability to DIY the project.

Yes, you can hang picture frames, shelves, and other items on Trusscore panels. For lightweight items (less than 30 pounds), the company recommends using adhesive strips rather than nails or screws. However, you’ll need to secure heavier objects to a stud in the wall. In these situations, Trusscore recommends cutting away the panel material and fastening the object to the stud with metal hardware.

The best way to calculate framing costs is by basing your costs on the square footage of your home. On average, framing your home could cost anywhere between $7 and $16 per square foot.

To ensure you don’t go over budget, base your estimates on the higher end of the price range. If you know you’re going to use high-end materials or require a custom or complex build, you might even want to tack on an additional 5% of your budget.

New builds, remodels, and additions often necessitate professional framing expertise.

Joists do distribute their load to beams, but they don’t sit on top of the beams. Instead, home builders nail or screw the joists directly to the beams such that the end of the joist butts up against the edge of the beam. Beams can sit on other beams for support, but you’ll never see a joist sitting on top of a beam or another joist.
