They were not the cheapest place we got an estimate from but they stated that they could get to work on it right away versus other glass companies we called who told us that they could not get to it for weeks. Since we were in the process of listing our house for sale, time was of the essence so we hired Carbone's. The gentleman I spoke with said that he would call us in a week when the replacement glass they would need to order arrived. Three weeks passed and I received no phone call (in case you were wondering why I waited so long, we were also in the midst of moving and I suffered a shoulder injury so a cracked window was the last thing on my mind). I called Carbone's and the man who answered (I believe it was Tim Carbone) told me that apparently our replacement glass was in Jaffrey, and that he would call me back the next day. He did call me back the next day (the only time he ever called me when he said he would) and told me that he would call me back early next week to schedule an appointment when the glass arrived from Jaffrey. Another two weeks passed by and I received no word from Carbone's. I called them yet again, this time quite angry because at this point the glass repair that was supposed to be done in a week had not been fixed over five weeks later. I told Tim Carbone that I was quite upset at this point and his response was that I was overreacting! In fact despite the fact that his company somehow lost my paperwork and made a mess of my relatively simple job, he never once apologized for any of the inconvenience he caused me. He actually, in what I felt was a rude tone of voice for someone who was in the wrong, told me that he had not called me because the glass that was delivered to their office in Keene was broken so they had to order another one. This was news to me and I told him that I understood that things went wrong but that I really appreciated being informed when something like this occurs. He told me he understood and then promised me that our window would be repaired early next week on either Tuesday or Wednesday. Late Wednesday around 5 p.m., I called our real estate agent's office to make sure that Carbone's had come by and picked up the keys to fix our window. I was informed that they had not come by and at this point very angry, I called and left a message with an employee with Carbone's stating that I wanted to cancel my order. The next morning I called again and was informed by Mr. Carbone that it was very difficult to get scheduling with "just three days notice" (HA HA) and that they had already sent out a man to fix our window (apparently he never received my message). He further went on to promise that he would call me back at noon to update me on the status of our job. Shockingly, he did not call me back at noon and I later found out his employee did not pick up the keys to our house until a couple of hours after I called. I really wished I had followed the advice of my real estate agent and just fired them, he offered to have someone from his office call them but I declined. Thankfully the window is fixed and I have mailed them my payment (since at this point I didn't want to give them my credit card information over the phone). It ended and it isn't the worst contractor story ever told but I would seriously consider the other glass repair companies in or around Keene before going to Carbone's. On closing day, everything seemed to go well. My closing agent was punctual, polite, and had all of the paperwork ready for me to sign. So far so good. When closing was over, I felt relieved and confident that things were finally settled. Over a month later, though, I received a call late on a Sunday afternoon from the Settlement Group, explaining that they had made a mistake with my closing costs and I had to pay hundreds of dollars more or else they would be unable to move forward with the paperwork! Having just bought a house, money was rather tight for me at the time, and given that I thought things were closed at, well, closing, and things were settled at, well, the settlement, I didn't really have a lot of spare cash available, so it was a real hardship for me to have to come up with this money at a moment's notice. Because of their mistake, I asked for a refund of their fees, and they gave me a partial refund. Now, thirteen months later, I just received a check in the mail from them--apparently, their audit revealed that they overcharged me for title insurance and they were giving me a refund. While I'm happy to get this unexpected check in the mail, I'm quite frankly disturbed by the number of mistakes the Market Street Settlement Group made with my mortgage, and at this point I have to question the validity of the entire transaction. My recommendation is that if you prefer that nothing really be settled on settlement day, and if you like to leave a lot of loose ends open at closing, then the Market Street Settlement Group may just be the company for you."},"url":"https://www.angi.com/companylist/us/nh/manchester/market-street-settlement-group-llc--manchester-reviews-6437378.htm"},"position":7},{"@type":"ListItem","item":{"@type":"LocalBusiness","name":"Jim Snow","address":{"@type":"PostalAddress","addressRegion":"VT","addressCountry":"US"},"review":{"@type":"Review","author":{"@type":"Person","name":"Jin A."},"reviewBody":"These are just some of the awful experiences I had with this couple. Serious, RUN.
After I made the initial down payment of $1700, they came back to us and told us it would be another $450 for power-washing and pruning. Jim, who it turns out has a hair trigger temper, wrote me a vitriolic email when I questioned them about this. I should have walked away then but I was promised this would be an isolated incident...it was not.
They said they'd start on Monday, didn't start until Wednesday which is when they told us we would need to pony up the extra money. Though at the time they blamed car problems, in hindsight I believe it was so we couldn't cancel the money order we had to get for them because they don't have bank accounts (red flag)
.The two weeks they told us the job would take actually took closer to six weeks. During this time they literally only came by our house for what we believe were only hours at a time because would see construction debris but very little work done.
The woman who owns the company and her ex Jim whom she had hired on to help her with this job because he was a supposed "expert" got into HUGE very public fights that my husband and I got caught between. In fact, the lady, Sheri, took a restraining order against Jim after the job was finished and Jim told us while they were still working for us that Sheri broke into his house (although I'm not sure how true that is, that is something he might have been lying about to turn us against her).
The paint job is decent however they did a less than stellar job on the wood replacement and gutter work (everything Jim did). In some places instead of replacing the wood like they agreed to do, they used wood putty to patch it up. In one place it was so bad, we had to ask them to redo a part because it looked so awful. Instead of replacing gutters they reused gutters and forgot to put up gutters in other parts. We wish we hadn't insisted they bother because the gutters were so poorly hung, we have now actually had to get them rehung by someone who knows what they are doing. In fact they have made so many mistakes we are having a competent person our real estate agent recommended make a whole bunch of fixes to the poor job they did.
Some of our things DISAPPEARED mysteriously right as they left. We had two very long ladders that we had bought a few months before worth approximately $300. They disappeared around the time they were removing their equipment. When we contacted them about it they both accused the other one of stealing them. At that point though, we were so glad to see the end of them, it just seemed anticlimactic.

Josiah Allen Real Estate enjoys an enviable reputation for bringing together buyers and sellers. Our record for finding unique Vermont homes and pairing them with astute buyers is unmatched. We specialize in historic country properties, estates and antique homes - Vermont properties not available elsewhere.
"Terrible, this company has several residential rentals noted on their website as available, but in fact they have no available rentals at all so you waste your time browsing thru page after page for no reason. When I called and spoke to the owner she made no apologies and gave no indication that she would remove these false listings any time soon. It's the old bait and switch!"

FAQs for real estate service projects in Halifax, VT
Yes, hiring a real estate agent is worth it. Many homeowners make the mistake of trying to sell their homes by themselves, thinking that they’ll save money on the commission, but what they save on the commission, they very often pay for in frustration and concessions on the sale price. Hiring a real estate agent to handle the sale of your home not only makes the process far easier and takes the burden off of you, but most homeowners get more for their homes when going through an agent because of the marketing and salesmanship they bring to the table.
Real estate agents work on commission, so the cost of hiring an agent will depend on the cost of the home you’re buying or selling. The listing contract should include information about the commission for both agents, which is usually 6 percent of the sale price in total or 3 percent per side. With an average national home value of around $440,000, the typical commission per agent is $13,200. However, you won’t pay this total out of pocket. Instead, the commission comes out of the sale price of the property.
Interviewing real estate agents is the best way to find the right person for the job. Consider asking the following questions to find the best agent for you:
How will you show my property?
Will you do open houses to market my home?
How will you handle dual agency (representing the buyer and you as the seller)?
Should I make repairs to my home before listing?
Will you get professional photos taken of my home?
What is the best price you think we can get for my property?
How long do you expect the sale to take?
You don’t legally need a real estate agent as a buyer, as you can represent yourself, but you should always hire an agent as a home buyer. A professional real estate agent will have access to local MLS services to find homes that meet your criteria and needs, can connect you with other professionals—like a mortgage broker and real estate attorney—you’ll need for the purchase, and can often negotiate a better price for your home to help save you money. Plus, as the buyer, your agent’s commission comes from the seller’s proceeds from the sale of the home.
