"I strongly caution anyone considering doing business with this company. I gave them a deposit of $4,428.65, and when I canceled a week later they kept almost $900 of it even though my service was not for another 6 weeks. You do sign a very simple, clearly stated document that says: should you cancel beyond three business days, you understand your deposit is non-refundable. Northern Basements may choose to refund depending on cancellation circumstances I fully acknowledge that I canceled a few days outside that window, but I hoped an honest company that cares about customers and referrals would choose to provide a full refund. I am a sucker for hoping that. They chose to risk my impression, referral, and review for $885.53. If nothing else comes out of this, I hope everyone reading at least goes in knowing that this statement on their contract is a real threat and your deposit is a hostage. Even Air b and bs offer full refunds on deposits within just a few days of their arrival date. 3 days to cancel with service not scheduled for 6 weeks out, Come on man. No materials were used. No service workers time was taken. The manager justified the 20% withholding as credit card fees, restocking fees, time and resources for the estimate, and administrative fees. I wholly accepted responsibility for the credit card fees and time of Paul, the gentleman who performed the assessment, and I offered to settle at 10%. I still believe any reputable company would have provided a full refund at this point in a project, or at most deduct the credit card fees because nothing more went into this beyond what would have normally been a free estimate. The further arguments the manager made for the additional fees were the scheduling of their team and the allocation of materials for my project. Complete nonsense, especially when the project was not set for 6 weeks away. Because they had my deposit hostage, they had control over how much they decided they wanted to keep, it was completely arbitrary, and they kept almost $900 of my money without providing anything. If they wanted to cover their credit card transaction fees, fine, at most 6%, but the rest is absolute robbery. The only solace I can find in this loss of almost $900 now is that I did not spend another $13,000 with them. I tried to call Paul after speaking with the manager to ask if he could do me a favor and try to reason with the manager on my behalf because he seemed nice enough. No answer. No callback. I will never seek out their services again and I will actively discourage others from doing so but, based on my experience, I expect they do not care."

As of 11/13 I am back in VT having completed repairs to friends, family and others in FL and will be taking on projects here in VT again. I am scheduled back in FL for a couple of weeks in February to do some site work for a new build but plan on being in VT until Dec 25. I provide, Carpentry, decks, painting, vinyl siding, window & door replacement, flooring, concrete work & repairs. From new to repair services to renovations. I am a trained Mill & House Carpenter, Graduated from BVT in 1984, after a 2 years active service I returned home to the reserves and began my Construction Career. I have overseen projects up to $100million in value, in 2016 I/we started a new venture of buying and re-habilitating campgrounds in GA & FL. I am now semi-retired and decided to provide quality affordable small construction services. In the very near future I will be providing certified home inspections as soon as testing is completed. If you have a project that needs to be done, give me a call and we can get it done. Snaking a toilet is similar to clearing sinks and bathtubs, but there are unique circumstances where you’d have to drain, disassemble, and remove the toilet to fix the clog. For stubborn clogs in the toilet trap, a toilet auger—designed with a shorter cable and a protective plastic encasing—can navigate the tight bends and clear the clog without risking damage to the porcelain. 

If you notice water coming out of the bottom of your tank or the flush handle, you obviously have a leaking tank. Water on the side of the tank can indicate cracks. Other signs include the toilet running and flushing without anyone touching the handle, needing to jiggle the handle to make the water stop after flushing, or needing to hold the handle down to empty the water tank.

If your sink is on an exterior wall that isn’t insulated, or if pipes travel through a cabinet against an exterior wall that prevents heated air from circulating around the pipes, the pipes can freeze, causing them to burst. The best way to avoid leaking sinks is to insulate the pipes and open cabinets in the short term to warm the water line up and prevent freezing.
