When a pre-existing problem in the basement plumbing prevented my new hot water heater from supplying hot water to my washing machine, they scheduled a plumber to fix it promptly at a reasonable cost. There were a couple of minor details that they needed to come back and fix and they did this promptly, as well. They were also flexible about waiting for payment while we awaited 3rd party financing of the energy efficiency loan. Our house is now cozy and warm on the coldest days of winter, with an endless supply of hot water. They did not do the plumbing on our recent bathroom renovation, which I do not regret. Here's why. On the kitchen, Brian, the owner, strongly suggested that we use Moen fixtures, which we did (and don't like, as it was scratched literally on the day of the installation--so it's proving to be about as reliable as the one it replaced--and it's not very nice looking, just the best of the lot, which isn't saying much). But when the faucet came loose, he wanted to charge nearly $300. I asked our current plumber if it had been properly installed; he said it had not, and setting it aright was not going to be easy. And he was fixing a problem with the disposal (another $300, though it was related to something else--there was nothing faulty about the original work). In addition, Brian does not guarantee the installation unless he sells you the fixtures. If I had it to do again, I would have told the contractor that we need a different plumber as that policy simply makes no sense in this day and age (and we could have had a better, better-looking faucet). Anyway, I paid the $100 because it was all torn apart and we needed to get the house in order to go on vacation. In addition, they installed filtration for a water line to an espresso machine. I asked if it could also go to the refrigerator. They said no, they needed to be on separate lines. When I did more research, I found out that (1.) they could have and (2.) if they had, then we'd save a lot of money on water filters, as the ones inside the refrigerator are very expensive. So our new plumber did that. It works beautifully. The refrigerator came with a filter-bypass cartridge to make this sort of thing possible--it's not some off-the-grid hack. And the external filters are 1/4 the cost. So the $66 for the reconfiguration will pay for itself very fast. Falcon is one of the most expensive plumbing companies in the area and overall, I'm sure that their strong reputation is deserved. Their first-hour rate is $139 and $98/hour after that. There are excellent alternatives at better rates. I wouldn't begrudge the rate, though, if the work had been more careful (the faucet) and thoughtful (the water filter). And the silliness about not guaranteeing the work if you don't buy the parts from Falcon, I could also (sort of) take, but we now source this sort of thing through an excellent specialty retailer (Close to Home), which is owned by a plumber, and does not carry Moen--because it's not high quality stuff. All nice people and Brian wasn't unpleasant about this matter. We just disagree about his policies and at their rates, I'm not favorably impressed with the work. But I would recommend him. He comes in and finds a problem. I have and old house and the pipes are not very good and he has never done damage. He is persistent and he follows the problem along until he can solve it. He is not a lot cheaper than other plumbers. I find he is more persistent and willing to solve the problem even if it gets really difficult. When he was doing it, he spent quite a lot of time unclog a drain in a third floor apartment, and what he found was that it was clogged up with hair. It was one of those disgusting problems that old plumbing gets clogged like that sometimes. But he did favor to make a hole in the pipe and end up with what he found. He spends over an hour - probably two hours."},"url":"https://www.angi.com/companylist/us/vt/burlington/boucher%27s-plumbing-and-heating-reviews-7584631.htm"},"position":10}]}

"I strongly caution anyone considering doing business with this company. I gave them a deposit of $4,428.65, and when I canceled a week later they kept almost $900 of it even though my service was not for another 6 weeks. You do sign a very simple, clearly stated document that says: should you cancel beyond three business days, you understand your deposit is non-refundable. Northern Basements may choose to refund depending on cancellation circumstances I fully acknowledge that I canceled a few days outside that window, but I hoped an honest company that cares about customers and referrals would choose to provide a full refund. I am a sucker for hoping that. They chose to risk my impression, referral, and review for $885.53. If nothing else comes out of this, I hope everyone reading at least goes in knowing that this statement on their contract is a real threat and your deposit is a hostage. Even Air b and bs offer full refunds on deposits within just a few days of their arrival date. 3 days to cancel with service not scheduled for 6 weeks out, Come on man. No materials were used. No service workers time was taken. The manager justified the 20% withholding as credit card fees, restocking fees, time and resources for the estimate, and administrative fees. I wholly accepted responsibility for the credit card fees and time of Paul, the gentleman who performed the assessment, and I offered to settle at 10%. I still believe any reputable company would have provided a full refund at this point in a project, or at most deduct the credit card fees because nothing more went into this beyond what would have normally been a free estimate. The further arguments the manager made for the additional fees were the scheduling of their team and the allocation of materials for my project. Complete nonsense, especially when the project was not set for 6 weeks away. Because they had my deposit hostage, they had control over how much they decided they wanted to keep, it was completely arbitrary, and they kept almost $900 of my money without providing anything. If they wanted to cover their credit card transaction fees, fine, at most 6%, but the rest is absolute robbery. The only solace I can find in this loss of almost $900 now is that I did not spend another $13,000 with them. I tried to call Paul after speaking with the manager to ask if he could do me a favor and try to reason with the manager on my behalf because he seemed nice enough. No answer. No callback. I will never seek out their services again and I will actively discourage others from doing so but, based on my experience, I expect they do not care."

FAQs for affordable plumbing projects in Charlotte, VT
Yes, most states require plumbers to be licensed, and for good reason. Hiring an unlicensed plumber could lead to poor quality work, costly future expenses, and potential code violations.
As you browse our pro listings, take note of the “Angi Approved” badge. Angi Approved businesses meet our standards for certification which include:
The owner, principal, or relevant manager passed a criminal background check
Required to have applicable state and local licenses
Maintain an average star rating of 3.0 or better on our network, if they have at least one review
Paying to advertise their services
Meeting any other eligibility criteria required by Angi
Keep in mind licensing is different from certifications. A license is a legal requirement to operate a business, while certifications are voluntary.
It’s possible to snake minor drain clogs yourself, provided they sit within a foot or two of the drain itself, but it’s usually best to hire a professional plumber regardless. Even experienced DIYers have a high chance of accidentally pushing the clog further into the drain using a drain snake or another tool, so hiring a plumber is the ideal course of action. A professional plumber can use camera equipment to locate and identify the clog, and remove the entire blockage to fix your issue permanently.
Typically, plumbing repairs cost about $325 per job but can range from $175 to $4,000 or more. Simple fixes, such as a toilet repair, will be less expensive at around $150 to $400. However, if you have a pipe that has burst, you can expect to pay between $1,000 and $4,000 or more.
The project that needs to be completed, the size of your home, and the type of plumbing pipes you have can all impact the final cost. External factors such as supply chain issues and shortage of materials all play a part in how much this repair might be.
The average cost to unclog a drain is around $200, with prices ranging between $110 and $800, depending on the type of drain and the extent of the clog. Hiring a professional to snake the toilet or sink will usually cost between $110 and $275, a bathtub or shower typically costs around $225, and a main line clog can cost between $100 and $800 based on the severity of the clog and how far beyond the access point the clog sits. Since the labor involved varies, most plumbers will charge an hourly rate for drain cleaning.
The average cost to hire a plumber is around $100 an hour but can vary between $45 and $200 an hour depending on the plumber’s experience and the repair that you need. It’s also important to note that these prices can go up on holidays, and emergency plumber rates average $150 per hour, in addition to a flat-rate trip fee of $100 to $350.
