"This company is a disgrace and should be avoided at all costs. We replaced every window and door at the cost of 55k only to have a complete disaster from beginning to end. 14 service calls and 18 months later they just completed the work in mid December 2022. Last night I discovered yet another problem, a dent in a door panel they changed out in December. They’re a bunch of amateurs that were not prepared any of the 14 times they were at our home. I basically had to project manage their team for them to make sure they had everything covered. We should have gone to Pella instead. Incidentally, Pella were very interested in our horrible experience with Richmond Window Corporation when I spoke with them recently. Apparently it’s not the first time they’ve heard complaints like this."

Generally speaking, you should clean your windows and any associated fixtures and treatments every six months. Otherwise, clean them as needed to keep everything running smoothly. If you live in a part of the country with especially hard water, you may have to clean them three or four times per year, and the same goes for areas where insects, pollen, dirt, and other debris can soil your windows and potentially cause issues with the moving parts.

Late spring through early fall is the best time of the year to replace windows. Ideally, you’ll want warm temperatures and minimal rain. Demand can be high just before summer and winter, though, so be sure to schedule well in advance to get your windows replaced before extreme temperatures arrive.

Removing a window isn’t a very long process. Depending on several factors, it can take anywhere from 20 minutes to upwards of an hour. The size of the window greatly impacts the time it takes to replace it. Accessibility is another big component. If it’s hard to reach the window or reaching it is dangerous, anticipate it taking longer. 

Lastly, if the old window is in poor condition, it could take longer to remove it safely—especially if the frame has wood rot and is structurally unsound.

Energy-efficient windows are judged on their performance according to a few different factors, including heat transfer, air leakage, light transference, and condensation resistance. If you're unsure whether a window is energy-efficient, look for an ENERGY STAR® label from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). If various products, including windows, meet energy-efficiency standards set by the federal government, the EPA issues this label to help consumers identify energy-efficient products.

The differences between a bay window versus a bow window involve the number of individual windows and the angle at which both windows extend from the home. A bow window has four to six individual windows that form a curve outside the exterior wall. A bay window usually has two small windows on the edges that angle outward from the exterior wall and a large window in the middle that’s parallel to the home’s exterior wall.
