"Tru Power Solutions came by to do an estimate and their staff was friendly and professional. I had bought a new chandelier and 2 outdoor garage lights. They put me in the schedule for the following week and finished the job promptly. Their work was stellar and I would recommend them for any electrical work needed."

"What a pleasure doing business with Chad with Steve’s Construction. He gave a no hassle evaluation and estimate. He started and finished early giving thorough updates throughout. He did not try to talk me into any “while I am at it” add-ons. He even showed me some tips for my other DIY projects."

"It went well. I was pleased with the services that they provided and the plan that they came up with. I had no trouble submitting it to the city in order to obtain a permit. They were easy to work with, even coming out on Saturday or Sunday, or the evenings - whatever worked with my schedule. They are really friendly, helpful and easy to get along with. It was a great experience and I plan to go to them for some additional work that I am planning on doing."

"My kitchen looks great. The counter tops needed replacing, the cabinets were fading and coming off the walls in several places, I needed new appliances, and the walls and cabinets needed new paint and backsplash. Ryan’s remodeling took care of it all, and it looks as good as new! The guy was punctual, knowledgeable, and got it done in a weekend. I would definitely use them again for any other projects I have."

"2 gentleman from Walls Construction and Handyman came out and cleaned gutters thoroughly. While there they did free roof inspection and found that 2 roof boots were cracked. They notified me and I told them to go ahead and repair them. They are one of the most outstanding companies I have ever had come out and do work on my house. Greg Maratto was very polite, experienced and just an over all joy. The office staff was also very polite and professional. I would definitely recommend using this company for any of your construction/handyman needs.

Garages questions, answered by experts

You’ll find many of the options we listed at big-box home improvement retailers and department stores, as well as smaller independent floor specialists in your area. Many of these stores offer full-service installation of the products they sell, and others may offer to refer you to a trusted partner for installation.

You can also shop for these products online. We recommend shopping around to compare prices, service offerings, and reviews from previous customers to help make a more informed final decision.

While the benefits of garage door screens usually outweigh the downsides, there are some cons to installing one. First off, they can be quite expensive, especially if you’re having a professional install a retracting screen or a custom size screen. Second, they let fresh air and natural light in, but they also don’t provide the same privacy from people in the neighborhood that a solid door does. As you might guess, screens also won’t insulate your garage, so they’re often not usable in colder weather.

The best options for lubricating a garage door are silicone- or lithium-based lubricants made specifically for this purpose. These products are designed to deeply penetrate the door's components, such as hinges and springs, providing long-lasting protection against wear and tear. A silicone-based lubricant is an excellent choice as it also prevents rust and corrosion and performs well in extreme heat and cold.

It is important to avoid certain products. Do not use heavy, oil-based lubricants or standard grease, as they can attract dust, dirt, and other debris that may get caught in the tracks. You should also avoid using WD-40, as it can strip away any existing lubrication.

You can typically find appropriate garage door lubricants online or at a local hardware store for less than $10.

The lifespan of garage door springs depends on the type and quality of the springs, the physical environment, and the level of use. In general, properly installed and maintained springs open and close a garage door around 10,000 times . That equates to around seven years if you open and close the door about four times a day. If you use your garage door more frequently, live in a very cold or humid environment that promotes corrosion or rust, or have a very heavy door, your springs may wear out faster and require replacing sooner.

It’s possible to use a torch to melt ice on your garage door, but we don’t recommend it. It’s very easy to bring the flame too close to the door, which can melt the weather stripping or even the garage door itself. You’ll melt ice quickly with a torch, but the damage you’re likely to cause can end up costing you a few hundred dollars to fix, which isn’t worth it. Instead, we recommend pouring hot water over the frozen area or using a less intense heat source, like a hair dryer or space heater.
