"After a tree fell on our aluminum fence, I couldn't get the company who installed it to even come give us a repair estimate! After finding Hal Co on Angie's list, I got excellent service from the estimator, office, and installers. The fence and gate looked and functioned better than before! When another tree fell on a different part of the fence about six months later, I knew exactly who to call. Once again, I was thrilled with Hal Co's performance."

"Mr. Harper arrived for the estimate on the day & time as scheduled (others did not). He brought several samples for us to choose from. He & his crew performed all that was promised with minimal interference to our lives.  We are very pleased with the new deck & receive many compliments on the work from visitors to our home.  The delay in sending in a report on the work has nothing to do with Mr. Harper & Oasis Decks; time just got away from us. We plan on having Mr. Harper return to put up gates at the top of both stairways as we now have a grandchild who is walking."

Driveway Gates questions, answered by experts

When choosing a driveway gate, consider the fence material, whether you want an automatic gate or a manual one, and property limitations like the slope of your driveway. We recommend speaking with a professional driveway gate installer to see what types of gates will work on your property based on your fencing or home’s exterior. Keep in mind that driveway gates should range between 10 to 12 feet wide to ensure cars can easily maneuver through the gateway.

Whether you can attach a wood extension to a vinyl gate depends on the gate's construction. Some vinyl gates are sturdy enough to allow wood or vinyl boards to be attached. Many, however, have hollow frames that may not hold screws or heavy extensions securely. For these, consider alternative extension options such as a rubber flap or chicken wire.

You can install a privacy cover on your wrought iron gate anytime. However, pick a dry day if you apply stain or paint to the paneling. If you’re hiring a local fencing contractor, they often offer better rates in their low season outside the busy spring and summer months.

A Trex gate costs $750 plus another $200 for the hardware pack necessary for installation. By contrast, Trex fencing ranges in price from $22 to $38 per linear foot, so you may pay a lot or a little depending on just how much space you need to enclose in your yard.

A DIY manual wooden gate costs $200 to $600 for a basic single-swing gate. If you want to hire a pro, a manual wood gate can cost $400 to $4,000. For automated wood gates, expect to pay $850 to $8,500.

Factors that affect price include the quality of materials, cost of labor, the height of the gate, and the type of gate you need.
