Customers say: Quick response

"Daniel Himes is an energetic young man who will not leave a job until everything is done, & done right. We had a lot of 50 year old gutters with a lot of hidden rot behind them. He & his workman cleaned out & replaced all the rotten facial boards & even removed & replaced the rotten ends on some of the roof rafters. Everything got primed, sealed & painted before installing gutters. He installed .032 gauge gutters & downspouts, pop riveted & sealed with elastomeric sealant. All installed with screws, not nails. Then they replaced a few shingles that were missing & re-edged all shingles that were not properly staggered. We were really pleased with the finished product as well as their pride of a pristine job well done."
 Another fine job.

Deck Cleaning questions, answered by experts

Both composite and PVC decking are excellent alternatives to wood. However, while composite is moderately priced and lasts around 30 years, PVC costs more and lasts longer. PVC is also more durable, though both materials are more durable than wood decking. Ultimately, the choice between composite and PVC decking will come down to your budget and preferences.

Both a well-constructed deck and a patio can add value to your home. Patios are generally cheaper to build but don’t offer the same aesthetics as a quality deck. Therefore, decks can be more appealing to buyers than patios, increasing a home's resale value.

The best and fastest way to remove paint from a deck often involves combining a chemical stripper with a pressure washer. Gel-based paint strippers are highly recommended because their thick consistency makes them less messy and easier to apply than liquid strippers. After applying the stripper to loosen the paint, you can use a pressure washer to efficiently wash away the residue. When using a pressure washer for this task, it's important to use a low pressure (under 1000 PSI) to avoid forcing too much moisture into the wood, which could lead to mildew or rot.

Decks are generally more expensive to build because they require elevating and railings. The difference between decks and patios is that decks are elevated, while patios are usually on the ground level. Plus, decks are usually made of wood and need more maintenance than most patios. However, decks and patios serve the same purpose, providing outdoor space for you to enjoy.

The best direction for a gate to swing depends on its location and purpose, but swinging inward is the general rule. An inward swing is often considered safer, prevents the gate from opening into public spaces like a sidewalk, and may be required by local building codes.

There are exceptions and specific considerations. If your property is on a slope, an inward swing might not be possible. For a deck gate, it's safest to have it swing away from any steps. In a backyard, the direction can be a matter of preference, though an inward swing can be helpful when carrying heavy items like a wheelbarrow into a garden.

Regardless of direction, ensure the gate can open fully without hitting any objects or blocking spaces. While an inward swing is standard, a gate that can swing both in and out offers the most flexibility if your setup allows for it.
