I'm 45 years old and started roofing at the age of 17 as an apprentice for my Brother in-law who was a Master Carpenter, Business owner, and 20+ years my senior. He taught me a lot about quality and what sets a laborer aside from a skilled Carpenter. A year later I was learning to lay floor trusses , flooring, layout top& bottom plates to frame walls and nearly everything else that led up to the roofing part where I started a year or so prior. I worked with him almost five years in Carolina Beach,N.C. Doing Decks, Drywall jobs, Trim carpentry, additions , remodels, Installation of windows and doors, just about everything besides electric. I then Moved back to Winchester and got a job on a wall panel line framing walls and then same company in Charlestown at their floor and roof truss factory almost 2 years. Soon after in early 2000's I ventured out on my own and started picking up as a subcontractor doing everything I had learned from my experiences. A lot of the work was In lake Holiday community in Cross Junction va. Word of Mouth and recommendations kept me busy. I got out of the business about 2012 because I found it hard to get a crew together and decided to get into Graphic arts and a job in Fairfax county. I'm starting to get back to a small handyman service, just myself and one qualified helper. Small handyman jobs are the specialty.

Landscaping questions, answered by experts

There are some instances when you can use extra drywall in your garden. Ideally, unused scraps of new drywall are best for amending soil without the concern of additional chemicals or mold. However, drywall with paint, mold, or potential asbestos requires specialized disposal by a professional and should be kept out of your garden.

Yes, many providers offer organic or eco-friendly treatments. Confirm availability with your contractor.

Landscaping prices are sometimes negotiable, but it depends on the professional with whom you’re working. In most cases, you’ll have a better chance of negotiating prices down the more work you have done. Your pro might be willing to discount labor if they’re guaranteed a large job. You can also ask your landscaper to recommend more affordable materials that will still bring your vision to life to save.

The best time to plant a tree is in the spring, so the roots have time to grow into the surrounding soil before winter sets in. Some people recommend planting in the late fall. However, planting in the spring reduces the stress on the tree, as it will be emerging from dormancy, giving it the full spring and summer ahead to acclimate and put down roots into the soil.

Plant a peach tree right at the end of your local dormancy period, likely at the very end of winter after the last frost when you can dig into the soft soil. Plan your backyard gardening season, including when planting peach trees, based on the frost schedule predicted in your local hardiness zone.
