"Excellent work from Rick and his team. From initial contact all the way to job completion was stellar. I requested to have Rick and his crew clear, grade and spread topsoil in order to extend my backyard and remove the huge burm left behind from the initial construction of my home in 2014. Rick was able to complete the job in less than 2 days. Now we have a backyard we’ve always wanted. I would definitely recommend Rick for any clearing and excavation projects and will be using the company for future projects. Thanks Rick and Team!"

"Jason and team removed existing and broken aggregate concrete driveway and laid down asphalt. They came on time and finished when they said they would. They had serious construction equipment that didn't never touched my house or a sprinkler head right next to the driveway. Excellent job."

Small jobs welcome

"We hired JM Concrete to remove an old broken sidewalk and pour a new one for the entrance to our home. They did a wonderful job. They are easy to get in touch with and good at returning phone calls. They gave us an excellent price on the job. They were professional, courteous, and worked hard. We are very pleased with the finished product. I would definitely recommend this company."

"Oscar cleared brush and high grass on about an acre along the back of my property. The property is irregular shaped, uneven terrain with multiple trees. He brought in the appropriate equipment, showed up when promised and did a great job. His prices are fair and I would definitely use him again."

"Justin came to my home and gave me an estimate for my very long (1/3 mile) driveway. Three days later the job was complete! 100 tons of #57 gravel delivered and spread in one day. Wonderful job! The equipment they own is first rate. The crew is the best. Very professional, polite, accommodating and most of all, they know how to do the job. You will not be disappointed if you hire Justin and his crew. I am sure they will exceed your expectations."

Excavating questions, answered by experts

There are many ways to cut through roots when digging, especially if your trencher doesn’t seem to be removing the roots. First, use a shovel to expose the roots. Then, use gardening shears to clear out smaller roots or a reciprocating saw to remove larger plant roots. If you plan on keeping the plant, avoid cutting any roots over 2 inches thick.

A walk-behind trencher can cut through roots as long as they’re not too thick, making a project much easier than digging with a shovel and other hand tools. Assess your terrain and the number of trees in the surrounding area to determine if a walk-behind trencher will ease the job. Digging a trench by hand is much more time-consuming and labor-intensive.

While general contractors sometimes handle demolition, you can also look specifically for local demolition contractors. Demolition experts need to understand structural integrity, the equipment needed for safe demolition, and the permits required for demolition.

Depth is not a qualifying component of evacuation. Any human-made cut, cavity, or depression in the earth’s surface is considered excavation. The hole from excavation can be any size, shape, or depth. Excavation is used to create foundations, reservoirs, drainage ditches, and roads. Long, narrow excavations are called trenches and are often used for underground utilities.

Yes, an excavation company is the best option for land grading and yard leveling. General landscapers might be able to tackle these projects, but an excavation company will do a better job because they’re used to operating the necessary heavy machinery. Landscapers might opt to do the work manually, which takes much longer and could cost you more in labor fees. Finally, excavation companies will understand local regulations and know when you need permits to legalize the work, while a landscaper might not.
