"We hired 59 Handyman to paint our living room walls, ceiling, and trim. He did an AWESOME job. He was very thorough, clean and organized. He was very easy to work with and knew his trade well. We will definitely hire 59 Handyman again for any future projects."

"Wade was excellent in his customer service especially his patience and willing to listen to my specific needs and kept me informed everyday. He replaced the stripping around my garage and replaced a stand alone door. He also powerwashed, replaced wood planks, and spray painted my deck. He repaired holes in my vinyl siding, power wash the whole house. I am very pleased with his work and would hire him again without hesitation."

"Did fantastic work. Clear explanation of what he would do. Readily admitted what was better handled by others. Was on time and on budget. Excellent workmanship. Managed government requirements. Treated everything with care. We had used him before and waited for him to become available rather than go with other people. We are VERY sad that he moved back home, but that is great news for the folks there!"

Handyman Services questions, answered by experts

Tipping contractors, builders, or general contractors is not customary or expected. Unlike many service professions where tipping is built into the payment structure, construction professionals typically charge a full rate for their services. However, you may choose to tip a worker for exceptional service, such as if they go above and beyond, stay late to meet a deadline, or work on a holiday weekend. Before offering a tip, it's a good idea to ask about the company's policy, as some prohibit their employees from accepting gratuities. If you want to show your appreciation for a job well done without giving a cash tip, consider writing a positive online review or offering to serve as a reference for potential new customers.

You can find a reliable handyperson by looking at professionals in your area and ruling out companies with poor reviews online. Next, check each handyperson on the Better Business Bureau to see if they have a history of complaints and rule out those that do. Finally, you can contact each handyperson to ask the following qualifying questions:

  • What is your hourly rate?

  • Are there any jobs you can’t tackle?

  • Are you fully insured?

  • How many years of experience do you have?

  • Do you have references I can contact?

While a handyperson will do the odd small job for your home, a maintenance person is responsible for conducting regular inspections and repairs. Maintenance people may come in to do small fixes and diagnose any issues you might be facing, but may not have all the same technical abilities as a handyperson.

Discuss design preferences and material choices before work begins for cohesive results.

Most professional appliance removal companies will not expect a tip, but offering one is a good way to show appreciation for a job well done. A tip of 10% to 20% is a good idea if your professionals are working in the rain or snow, if they take extra care not to damage your walls and furniture in the removal process, or if they need to maneuver the appliance through tight spaces or up or down stairs to get it out of your home.
