"I contracted with Andy at Classic Granite and Marble to install granite in my kitchen and marble in my bathroom. I expected them to show me small samples of their stone but WOW Brittney took me into the warehouse and out into the yard to pick the exact slabs they would be using. Her expertise in the granites and marbles was amazing, she knew every slab by name and the cost of each off the top of her head. I picked the specific slabs I wanted and Brittney suggested that the vein running through the slab would be best on the island in my kitchen and she was absolutely correct. The day came when the granite and marble were to be installed, being me I am always afraid something would go wrong. Gio and his co-worker came in, looked things over and started their installation. They carried in each piece and set them in place, taking extra time to make sure that every piece was level and checking that they were fitted exactly in line by using a razor blade across the line where they were fitted and adjusting until they were perfect. I highly recommend Classic Granite and Marble for all your countertop needs."

"My bathroom was a mess, it needed every surface replaced/refinished. I had a vision of what I wanted and Pasha made very helpful recommendations. DIY offers excellent choices in tile, quartz, granite and marble. The workmanship was excellent in all areas; carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and the tile work was excellent. I'm thrilled with the finished product. Pasha quickly responds to questions and is committed to making his clients happy. I highly recommend DIY."

"We were very happy with the work performed on our exterior trim. Seth responded quickly to our request for an estimate, and then provided a fair estimate within two days. Work began soon thereafter, as materials had to be ordered. We are very satisfied with the finished work. After the work was completed, Seth walked around the house with us to ensure that all of the problem areas had been fixed, and they were. The work required 3 days for completion, and our yard was cleaned up well at the end of each work day. I highly recommend this company."

Marble Restoration questions, answered by experts

It is not recommended to put a hot pan directly on a marble countertop. While marble is heat-resistant, it is not completely heat-proof, and extreme or prolonged exposure to high heat can cause discoloration, cracking, or chipping. Pans may also scratch or nick the surface. To protect your countertop and maintain its integrity, always use trivets or hot pads. Note that faux marble finishes do not resist heat and require protection from hot items at all times.

The frequency for sealing granite countertops depends on several factors, including the type of sealant used, the color of the granite, and how heavily the countertops are used. As a general guideline, resealing is often recommended every 12 to 18 months, but some sources suggest it could be as often as every few months or at least once a year.

The type of sealant is a major factor: water-based sealants may need reapplication every six months to a year, while more durable solvent-based sealants can last for five to 10 years. Additionally, factors like heavy kitchen traffic, frequent use of acidic cleaners, and lighter granite colors may require more frequent sealing to prevent staining.

To determine if your countertops need resealing, you can perform a simple water test. Place a few drops of water or a wet paper towel on an inconspicuous area of the granite. After 10 to 15 minutes, check the spot. If the water has beaded up, the seal is still intact. If the water has been absorbed and darkened the stone, it's time to apply a new coat of sealant. You can choose to seal the granite yourself or hire a professional to ensure it's done correctly.

No, you cannot use vinegar to polish marble. It is too acidic for cleaning or polishing and can etch the surface. Instead, opt for non-acidic cleaners made specifically for marble. Follow the manufacturer’s directions to ensure proper application and to protect the marble. However, a damp mop can be an effective marble cleaner when used appropriately and as long as moisture is immediately soaked up.

You can’t change the color of the stone, but you can update granite countertops without replacing them by painting them. Because granite is a porous material, you’ll want to seal them first before painting them so that the paint doesn’t hurt the surface. This is important because you don’t want to devalue your counters by damaging the original surface; even if you don’t like the color now, you or a new homeowner may want to remove the paint someday and return them to their original color. You can also cover them with

Quartzite countertops are porous, meaning that liquids can seep into the stone and stain them. You’ll need to seal them before installing and resealing annually, depending on use and stone material. Sealing will help prevent stains and etching. On the other hand, you don’t need to seal quartz and other engineered stone countertops since they aren’t porous.
