"My husband and I realized our crawl space was flooded and couldn't figure out where/how to turn off the main water line coming into our house. Brendan Julian has helped us numerous times in the past with household improvements and repairs. I luckily had the great idea to call him for assistance. Due to the emergency situation, he was at our house in maybe half an hour--incredible. Brendan found the main water valve, which was buried under a few inches of mulch, by looking at where the valve was in our neighbor's yard. Brendan knew how to turn off the water and the emergency was resolved. Later that day we called Brendan to ask how to get the sump pump we bought to pump out the crawlspace (only type of pump available at Home Depot) to turn on. We couldn't figure this out after reading the pump instructions several times and watching some YouTube videos. Brendan gave us the critical missing instruction--the float has to be higher than the pump to work--and the sump pump roared to life. Second problem solved. Several days later once the crawlspace dried out, Brendan came out to try and repair our land line phone line which had stopped working when the crawlspace flooded. Brendan found that the phone line hadn't been properly tied up by the original installer 15 years ago and had shorted out from the flooding. Brendan repaired the line, properly tied it up, and the phone started working. Third problem solved. Thank goodness for Brendan Julian. He is awesome!"

"An electrician and his assistant failed to properly reconnect the water hose to a dishwasher. Dishwasher flooded my kitchen during the first cycle. When I reported it and requested that they return to properly attach the hose- was told the electrician stated they had not pulled out the dishwasher and that I was lying. He was unaware that I had taken pictures of the empty dishwasher space and the disconnected dishwasher. 7 Hills Electric has ghosted me. "The worst company I ever dealt with. 1. They left out ceiling fan from estimate and demanded extra for it on the project day so I bit the bullet and agreed to pay for it. 2. They changed the plan where the trench will be dug because the worker noticed how thick the wall was. Because of this, they bursted water pipe and Molly, the office worker told me I wouldn't be charged for it but then changed her word later on and demanded that I pay half of the plumber cost. I argued back and she threatened to report me and put a lien on my house. 3. I told the estimator where the water line is and that the house is 200 yrs old and probably not built up to nowadays code. But they kept saying that it is my responsibility that the water pipe broke. I mean, even if I didn't tell them, it doesn't take an expert to tell how old the house is and the water pipe is visible??? 4. Molly, the office worker can't do math and put higher amount on my first invoice. Do not trust her to bill you correct amount. 5. After bursting the pipe, they covered the area upon rough in inspection to hide it from the inspector saying it was for my convenience walking the dog, etc 6. The plumber they hired didn't fix the leak properly and was still leaking the next day. Their worker noticed it and they sent the plumber back out without letting me know to my vacant property. 7. No apologies at all after all this mess but the owner decided to tell me to 'knock it off' because I was getting upset at this ridiculous conduct. 8. Molly, the office worker couldn't even bother to tell me what time the workers were coming so I took my day off expecting them to be here in the early morning. They showed up around noon. My husband could have met them if I knew that earlier. I lost my earning for no other reason other than her laziness. Again, no apologies. 9. The ruptured water pipe caused my hot water heater to break because it was full of mud. I had to spend another $1400 to get it replaced. Record every conversation if you must hire this company. Rather, avoid this cluster of inadequate people."

"It didn’t go well. I had purchased a special offer that included a bath exhaust fan which included installation for $150.00. Mr Schools did not only honor his offer but would not, did not refund what I paid. Schools offered plenty excuses but never delivered- this event occurred over a several month period. Extremely disappointed and a total rip-off in my opinion."

Ceiling Fans questions, answered by experts

In most parts of the country, it’s required by law that a licensed electrician be the one to connect your ceiling fan if the ceiling hasn’t already been wired to support one. We strongly recommend going with a professional if you need to install wiring into your home to power a ceiling fan.

Yes, you can install a ceiling fan where there is already a light fixture. The electrical wiring needed to install a ceiling fan is similar to that of a light fixture. Before you make the swap, consider whether you need an extension rod and whether your ceiling is on an angle. You will need a fan-rated electrical box to ensure that your ceiling is sturdy enough to handle a spinning fan.

If your home doesn’t have the existing wiring to power a ceiling fan, you may need to hire a certified electrician to set it up for you. Building codes in some parts of the country require this part to be done by an expert. And in general, you want peace of mind that your electricals are installed correctly.

It’s possible to install your own ceiling fans if you’re replacing an existing one. This work doesn’t require a permit and technically doesn’t necessitate a certified electrician, but it’s still a good idea to hire one. There’s always a safety risk when working with electrical components, even if you shut the power off at the breaker. If you’re installing a new ceiling fan where there currently isn’t a fixture, you will need a licensed electrician to run the new wiring and pull permits for the work.

If your home already has wires for a ceiling fan (and optional light kit), then it’s quite safe to wire and install it yourself. Always be very careful to shut off the power before you begin, and confirm that the power is safely off with a non-contact voltage tester before touching anything. It’s also highly recommended to use eye protection, rubberized gloves, and tools with rubber handles to keep yourself safe from electric shock.
