"It went great. I have used Electric Solutions of Richmond three times thus far. I could not be any more pleased with the company. Joe (the electrician) is so easygoing and amazing to work with. It is great to be able to upgrade fixtures, fans, plugs, etc. in my older home knowing the work will be done right and at a cost that is more than fair. They are fast, efficient, and very affordable. I highly recommend this company for any electrical needs a homeowner might require. Cathy K"

"We had an emergency situation during a very hot week in June when the wires that connected the a/c to the thermostat were accidently cut.  The a/c company that I had a service contract with could not come for over a week, as well as a couple of other companies I contacted.  I called Scotty, and within a couple of days his guys were able to come out and reconnect the wires.  We also had them install an outlet for a dryer.  They were professional yet friendly and we very much appreciated the quickness of their response.

"The service was great. Jomoniq an Jeff arrived at the appointed time and went right to work. They were professional and responsive. Very easy to work with. One of the ceiling fans was located in a room with a 20" ceiling. It was a tough install and they did a great job. I'd recommend them to anyone needing electrical service and certainly use them again myself.

"Wes is the best.  We have used him at two different homes and he always goes beyond what is expected.  We are now using him to assemble a gazebo kit we bought and put flooring in it.  He is also going to build a fence for our new home.  He has always been prompt, fair, and done great work.  This will be the 4th or 5th time we have used him. If he cannot do the job he passes and recommends someone who can.  I would not take a chance on anyone else as long as he is available.

"All three jobs were scheduled and completed in the most professional manner. We are very comfortable with the workers and they are very thorough and efficient. We have also contracted with them to install an attic fan and an electrical outlet in our master bedroom. Were very pleased with their affordable, reliable work."

Ceiling Fans questions, answered by experts

Ceiling fans require periodic cleaning of blades to avoid dust accumulation, checking screws and connections for firmness, and occasional lubrication for components, keeping the fan running smoothly and quietly over time.

If the fan doesn’t have a switch, connect the white wire from the ceiling to the white wire from the fan; connect the green wire to the ground wire; connect both black wires; and connect both blue wires. If yours has a switch, the white and green wires are connected the same way. However, connect the ceiling’s red wire to the light’s black wire and the ceiling’s black wire to the fan’s black wire.

Many ceiling fan-rated electrical boxes tend to be made of metal. However, some electrical boxes may also be made of heavy-duty plastic that is reinforced with metal support structures. It may also have an attachment that connects directly to a ceiling joist. If you are ever ensure, consult with a licensed professional to get their insight on best practices and whether the installation is a safe one.

The more surface area that a ceiling fan blade has, the more effective it will be at producing airflow. Therefore, a longer ceiling fan blade is the better option if you’re looking for more wind. However, a longer blade will consume more energy than a shorter blade.

If you’re removing a ceiling fan without visible screws, start by locating the fan canopy—a round cover placed above the fan blades and motor. There should be a thin ring that can be turned counterclockwise to remove the canopy and reveal the screws. After unscrewing the fan, you can disconnect the wires and remove the entire fan from the mounting hardware. For safety, make sure the fan switch is turned off before you remove the canopy. It may be easier to remove the fan blades first, too.
