"I am sooo pleased with Jason & helper's work. Friendly, kind, professional guys who did an excellent job of cutting down 7 huge gum trees in my back yard in the flower beds, right near the deck, and were very mindful not to destroy my plants or anything else. I highly recommend them and am glad I found them."

"I had an excellent experience with this tree service company from start to finish! The estimate was fair and very affordable compared to others I considered. They arrived on time, worked efficiently, and took great care to protect surrounding property from damage. They removed debris thoroughly and left my yard cleaner than they found it. I highly recommend them to anyone in need of tree removal or trimming services. Reliable, affordable, and excellent customer service — I will definitely use them again in the future!!"

"I called to set up an appointment and was told to submit the details via an email, which I did. I saw where the email was sent to someone else to follow up with me and that was the last I ever heard from anyone."

"We had two trees removed and stumps ground - one average size and one very large. The entire crew was very knowledgable, safety conscience, and overall did an outstanding job. East Coast Trimmers are highly recommended for tree service at a very reasonable price. We will have them return for tree trimming as needed."

"These guys were fast, professional, and respectful of my property. They even secured both gates before leaving. I am so happy with the job they did. My budget was tight and they got the job done in no time. My yard looks absolutely amazing and the edge work was fantastic! They even blew off the hard surfaces leaving a polished job. Hire them! I plan on it!! Sincerely, A Happy customer!"

Arborists questions, answered by experts

Usually, trees cannot grow back after their stump has been ground, but some very hearty types of trees can. For example, if you have a black locust or Redford pear, the grinding will need to go deep to prevent them from growing back. Ask your tree service or stump removal expert whether your tree can resprout after its stump is ground down.

Light-bark trees are most notorious for producing lots of sap when wounded. These varieties include maples, birches, poplars, dogwoods, magnolias, and elms, and they will bleed more when the trees are dormant. That’s why it’s a good idea to prune them in the summer months rather than waiting until winter.

It is possible to cut down a tree on your property yourself, but it is generally not recommended unless specific conditions are met. You should only consider this project if the tree is small (e.g., under 4-5 inches in diameter and short enough that you don't need a ladder to reach the branches), and you are experienced in handling a chainsaw. The tree must also be located far from any power lines, fences, homes, or other structures. Even for small trees, the work can be dangerous, and it's always advisable to have a spotter to ensure the tree falls correctly and no branches fall on you.

For any tree that is large, requires a ladder to access, or is near electrical lines or structures, you should always hire a professional. Attempting to remove a large tree yourself is extremely dangerous, poses a risk of serious injury, and could result in significant damage to your property.

Before any tree removal, it's also important to check your local and state regulations to ensure the tree is not historic or otherwise protected by your city.

Make sure the tree roots soak around a day before you dig the tree up for the transplant. Keep the roots wet while the tree is above ground. After the transplant is finished, provide consistent water every day for the first month or so. You don’t want to overwater the tree, but you do want to keep the roots wet so they can thrive in their new environment.

There are a few instances in which removing a tree is the best option. You might do this if the tree looks to be a major danger—potentially falling onto your home, your car, or other parts of your property—or it’s diseased beyond repair. A tree that is growing too close to your house might need to be removed to prevent mold growth.
