Small jobs welcome

"Joe Elko gave a direct quote; outlined what problems we could run into. He talked straight which is refreshing when apprehensive about paying for upgrades. I wanted to replace the 1982 butcher block laminate but keep the sink and faucet. He came over for measurements before I had to go to work; showed samples to choose from. It was a quick and easy process. Showed up as promised with an assistant & got right to work and did an outstanding job at an incredibly reasonable price! I priced prefab laminate countertops & redid my bathroom countertop myself. The problems and costs involved to do it myself told me I needed to get someone professional for my kitchen. It was NO cost saving to do my bathroom countertop myself! Their install job was complete in less than two hours & left my kitchen better looking (& cleaner) than when they got here. :P Joe Elko's work is a top-notch install with a realistic price point. I am so thrilled with my new laminate countertops! I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Joe Elko/Counter Effects Inc. AWESOME! (Counters installed 4-21-17)"

"Merrifield Granite and Marble replaced my old laminate countertops with new quartz countertops in one day! My old drab kitchen now looks fantastic and has increased the value of my home. Because of the number of countertops in my home, I just knew it would cost more than $20,000, but it came in at less than $5,000. I highly recommend this company for your countertop need! I will even use them to install a new countertop in the master bathroom!"

Countertops and Backsplashes questions, answered by experts

Yes, you can change the color of concrete countertops multiple times. If you use paint rather than a stain, you can go from dark to light, but if you are only using a stain, you can go from light to dark.

Yes, you can install a farmhouse sink on an existing countertop—but there are some caveats. You’ll need to precisely measure. It’s best to choose a sink that’s the same dimensions as your existing sink, since your contractor won’t have to cut the countertop. Otherwise, pay close attention to the depth of your counter (the front to back measurement). You don’t want to install something that’s so big it sticks out beyond your countertop and cabinetry.

Granite is one of the most popular options for countertops, and most homeowners believe that granite countertops are worth the money. Granite is more affordable than marble and quartz, and provides outstanding durability and longevity. Granite countertops are also desirable because they are entirely unique; unlike some other countertop materials, your granite slab won’t be identical to any others. Granite is porous, which means it has the potential to stain if you don’t clean up spills quickly, but the general durability and relatively low cost make it well worth the investment.

Yes, you can use paint if you want to refresh your tile countertops. However, you must be mindful of the type of paint you use. Look for options explicitly created for tile that are also waterproof and durable. Over time, the paint will chip, so this is not considered a long-term solution for busy kitchens.

Onyx countertops have pros and cons. If you seal it properly and take care not to damage it, it can make a good countertop surface. However, it's more often used in bathrooms, where it’s less likely to sustain damage. Having an onyx kitchen countertop is possible, but you’ll need to take extra care not to burn, stain, or otherwise damage the material.
