"I was so impressed with Wilber and his employees that in addition to painting our deck, I also hired him to pressure wash our deck and fence, replace the lattice on our pergola, as well as perform some other minor wood work. His responsiveness, quality of work and price were all excellent and would be hard to match. I have already referred him to several others in our neighborhood and look forward to hiring him again in the future!"

"Gabriel was very responsive in providing an estimate/proposal. We struggled with scheduling due to weather - rain and temperature. Once weather cooperated, work was scheduled. Both the cleaning and painting crews were timely and diligent workers. They were careful in protecting plants surrounding the deck and in planters on the deck. Work was completed on time and budget. Have received numerous compliments on the appearance of the deck.."

"Tim Cline and his crew from All Pro Painting did a great job painting the exterior of my house and staining a screened in porch. They were always professional and did outstanding work. I would definitely hire them again for future work and would definitely recommend them to anyone else."

"Great job and timely. Moved furniture and covered everything including floors. They recommended a satin finish for easy cleaning and it turned out great. Price was very competitive. Thanks and they will be on the top of the list for the next painting project. Kimberly"

"The crew was easy to work with and did a very good job. Weather was a challenge and they worked one Saturday to get the project finished. I think all of the cedar got 2 coats of stain as proposed, and they willingly bought the Olympic stain that I requested. They stated beforehand that they would caulk and finger smooth all windows, doors, and joins. They did this in most of the obvious places on the front of the house, but some of the caulk lines in the back appear to have been applied on top of the existing 8 year old caulk and were obviously not finger-smoothed. They honored their estimate and they were very reasonably priced. I never saw any to them wear a mask or face covering even when standing close to me in a conversation. They certainly didn't need masks when working, but all workers need to wear them when in close contact with a customer. I would hire them again. It was a good experience and I feel like I got what I paid for."

"We were very pleased with the jobs performed. The crew power washed, rolled and brushed our exterior brick home, as well as the trim and shutters. The job was expected to take 7-10 days, and everything was completed within 10 days. The owner was very informative and easy to work with. When a change was requested with our trim and shutter colors, he made a suggestion as to one of the changes we discussed, and we were very pleased that we went with his suggestion. The end product turned out even better than expected. Also, the price was very reasonable. I would highly recommend W.W. MV & Son Painting."

"We had had Powerhouse do some exterior painting for us last summer and they did an awesome job. Very conscientious, and thorough. We then talked to Brian about possibly replacing a couple of our windows—one in front and one at the back. We have an older home and like the stained interior, and even though wood windows aren’t recommended, we chose to do that since we didn’t want to replace ALL of the windows at one time. I did a lot of research and worked with Tommy Underwood, who again, did a very thorough job ordering the window and keeping me in the loop. He listened to what I had said, and ordered the window for us. Since the original windows are 30 years old, you can’t get ‘exactly’ the same kind, but they did a superb job of finding a very similar replacement window. The installation was fairly easy, but finding the closest stain color was not. It took a lot of trial and error, but they stuck with it and did an excellent job. We are so pleased because there will be more window replacement in our future and we’ve found a company. (Powerhouse) and a product that works well for us. Thank you to Brian, Tommy, and Wes for their hard work. We are very pleased with the result."

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

It is not always necessary to remove old stain before restaining a deck. If the previous stain is in good condition and is compatible with the new stain, you may be able to apply a new coat after thorough cleaning. However, if the old stain is in bad condition, flaking, or peeling, it is best to remove it completely to ensure an even surface and proper adhesion for the new coat. Staining over a damaged layer can lead to an uneven finish and poor penetration. For best results, test a small area first and consult the stain manufacturer's guidelines.

The general consensus is that two coats of stain are required and since the cedar is siding, a third coat of sealant is always a good idea. This helps protect the wood and stain, so you won’t need to resand and restain for at least a decade. Each stain after the first will darken the wood, so be aware of that when choosing a colored stain.

Yes, you must thoroughly clean your deck before staining. If you don't, dirt, debris, grease, and mildew can get trapped between the wood and the new stain. This not only looks unsightly but also prevents the stain from penetrating the wood properly, reducing its ability to protect the deck from weather and UV rays. As a result, the stain won't last as long or look as good. Any existing mold or mildew left untreated can continue to grow beneath the new stain, potentially leading to wood rot and structural damage. Always wait at least 48 hours after cleaning for the wood to dry completely before applying stain.

Yes, you can waterproof any wood that has not already been treated. A good way to test this is to splash some water on it. If the water starts to bead up, the wood is treated and most likely doesn’t need another coating.

Always sand a deck before repainting so the wood is smooth and ready for paint. While you do not need to fully remove paint before repainting, sanding helps remove any areas with weather and sun damage. Sanding also helps remove chipped or flaking paint and opens the wood pores to improve paint adhesion.
