"Utilizing All Service Moving for the move was a very positive experience. They had good communication, answering several questions prior to the move and did a final confirmation just prior to the move date. As for the physical move itself, Jose, Abraham, and Alberto were polite, diligent, and careful moving the many items, and managed to complete the move more quickly than anticipated."

"It was a great experience!! After having a very BAD (horrible) experience with a previous moving company about six weeks prior to hiring “A Friendly Affordable Moving (AFAM)” company, I was pessimistic about hiring another moving company but I needed additional “moving” services since the previous moving company was too inexperienced and unprepared (literally had NO moving equipment) to complete my moving job. I HAD to hire someone else to move what remained. Reluctantly, I decided on hiring “AFAM” but I must admit the experience with “AFAM” was a pleasant surprise and delight!! The 3-man crew sent was Jay, Jacob and Kenneth. They were “friendly” as the name of the company denotes. I was greeted by Jay with the company’s initial protocol and procedures (which eased a little of my concerns at that moment). Overall, I was pleased! My “moving” services were for moving furniture and boxes/things out of a house into a 10x20 storage area that was already filled with other boxes and furniture from the previous move. I wasn’t sure if there was room left in the storage area for all the remaining stuff that was on the truck but “Jay” knew what he was doing and made it happen!!! There was extra room after everything was situated. These three guys listened—respected my “wants” and what was written on my boxes/moving bags and made it happen!! They handled the furniture with care. The previous company ruined some of my furniture, unfortunately. I highly recommend this company, this crew!!! My faith is restored but only in this company ? because of my “firsthand” experience with them!! Because I know I will need “moving” services again soon, I already know who to contact!!! My heart was literally made happy because of this 3-man crew—this moving company that these 3 men represent!!! This may be a 2nd review from me on this move but it’s worth it!! I am grateful to God for this moving experience!!!!"

"Nationwide made my moving experience easy. This is my third time moving cross country. The other two times prior were a disaster. Nationwide Moving really came through. Handle my belongings with care. Very polite crew and stood by their estimate and did not increase my move. I highly recommend."

"I recently hired this company to move my two-bedroom apartment, and they did an amazing job from start to finish. The team arrived on time, worked efficiently, and handled all of my furniture and boxes with great care. They wrapped everything properly, made sure nothing was damaged, and even helped place items exactly where I wanted them in my new place. What really stood out was how friendly, patient, and professional the movers were the entire time. They made the whole process stress-free and way easier than I expected. If you?re looking for a reliable, hardworking moving company, I definitely recommend them. I?d hire them again without hesitation!"

Moving questions, answered by experts

It's less expensive to drive your car than to ship it a short distance. The cost of shipping an automobile increases per mile for short trips, making it a less attractive option for your wallet. However, long-distance car shipping, especially on an open trailer or train, is typically less expensive than hotels, food, fuel, and other costs during a DIY move.

When planning an out-of-state move, you should aim to save enough money to cover at least two to three months of living expenses, including rent, food, utilities, and transportation. Ideally, saving for six months or more is best, especially if you don't have a job lined up. You also need to budget for the transition costs, such as a moving vehicle rental, hiring movers, and packing materials. Cross-country moves typically cost between $2,400 and $6,860. You can calculate your estimated moving costs in advance based on factors like distance, weight, and the number of bedrooms.

Not all furniture needs to be disassembled. Smaller items or pieces that are easily transportable might not require disassembly. You only need to worry about assembling large pieces, like a sofa, in order to fit through existing door frames and hallways. Before you disassemble anything, take measurements of your furniture and talk to your moving company about what should be taken apart prior to moving.

Most hardware stores or shipping centers have mirror boxes and moving supplies. You can find most of what you need online, but if you’re still having trouble, contact your movers or moving truck rental company. They may sell boxes and packing supplies, too.

Start by removing any obstacles in the moving path, such as side tables, lamps, or other furniture. If your couch has legs, unscrew them. Measure the couch and the stairway to ensure you have enough room; if it seems unlikely, examine the shape and size of the couch and decide whether it might fit better up the stairway and through doorways on its side, held diagonally, or moved in an upright position.

Consider putting the sofa on a dolly to go up the stairs. It should be able to fit upright on a standard dolly with wheels. You’ll still need to lift the dolly—with the couch on it—up the stairs, but it will reduce the physical strain. The person holding the dolly should pull the couch up, while the helper should be on the other side, keeping the couch secure and steady.

If you don’t have a dolly, the person in front should lift the couch slightly higher than the person in the back to create more stability. The person in the back should also be the stronger mover, as most of the weight will be distributed there.
