"LeafFilter doesn't clean gutters, they sell and install their LeafFilter Gutter products and only clean the gutters if you buy their product. I can't even begin to afford their product so I wasn't able to get my gutter cleaned by them."

"This company offers general household repairs. I requested that they clean off the caulking along the floor beside a bath tub and re-seat the vinyl flooring that was curling back, and then recaulk the tub. After the representative arrived and inspected the flooring, I was told that the best repair option would be to install a PVC quarter-round strip along the bottom of the tub, but that either I would have to go out and purchase the materials or he could go and purchase the materials for me (He did not have 1/4 round stock in his van). I then requested, since the representative was here, that he might recaulk along the base of a bath tub in a different room. He did complete the recaulking of the second bath tub (along the floor) and the work was satisfactory. I did not have him complete the originally requested work as I did the work myself.

After follow-up and talking to the president of the company, I am changing my original overall grade of "D" to "C," based on a better understanding or their business model. My understanding now is that Mr. Handyman will make it clear before coming to a work site that you have a choice of buying the materials yourself or having them purchase materials for you. While this is an interesting choice to save time and money, I'm not sure (as in my case) that you would know exactly which materials would be needed before the vist).

I can easily recommend the quality of work and the knowledge and competence of the worker who came if you are seeking a contractor who works by the hour + a $35 transportation charge. With this understanding, I would not hesitate to recommend Mr. Handyman to others."

"Asa was great. We hired him to clean our shed. His rates were very competitive. He was extremely professional and communicative throughout the job. Without any reservations, I would work with PHS again, and I strongly recommend them."

Gutter Cleaning questions, answered by experts

To clean the tops of gutter guards, use a soft-bristle brush or a leaf blower to remove debris like leaves, twigs, or dirt. For stubborn grime, spray the guards with a garden hose, directing water downward to avoid forcing debris into the gutter. If the guards are removable, take them off and rinse thoroughly before reattaching. Regular cleaning, especially during fall or after storms, will help maintain their effectiveness.

The best times of year to clean your gutters are typically in the spring and fall. Cleaning in the fall is crucial for removing leaves and debris that have accumulated, which helps prevent clogs. A spring cleaning ensures your gutters are clear and prepared for seasonal rainfall.

As a general guideline, experts recommend cleaning your gutters at least twice a year. However, the optimal frequency depends on several factors, such as local weather patterns, the type of gutters you have, and the number of trees on your property. If your home is surrounded by many large trees or pine trees, you may need to clean your gutters as often as every three to four months. If you have few or no trees nearby, twice a year is likely sufficient. In some cases, you may need to clean them a couple of times during the fall and spring to keep them clear and allow water to flow freely.

Regular cleaning to remove debris and ensure functionality throughout the year.

If you don't want to install gutter guards, the most common and inexpensive alternative is regular gutter cleaning, either annually, biannually, or as soon as they start to fill up. Using a leaf blower attachment can make this process easier. Other products designed to reduce cleanings include gutter screens (made of wire mesh, nylon, or foam), which are typically less expensive than a full gutter guard installation. You can also find guards and inserts designed specifically to protect your downspouts or opt for a whole gutter system like LeafGuard, which integrates the gutter and guard into a single product.

It is not recommended to clean gutters, or do any work on your roof for that matter, without the use of a ladder. Please make sure you have a spotter and avoid slippery surfaces when performing this task.
