"Daniel and Tim arrived promptly at 8:00 a.m, as promised.  Daniel assessed the job, determined what was needed, and set to work.  Switching the generator connections to the kitchen lights was accomplished with no problems.  Installation of the outlet for the microwave required putting conduit on the garage wall to get the wire from the breaker box to the crawl space, then the wire was strung along the floor joists to the kitchen island.  The receptacle was installed, the wires run to it, and we had power to the microwave.
The work was excellent.  Daniel and Tim were professional and friendly.  We are very satisfied.
The company gave a 10% senior discount and honored an Angie's List coupon for 5% off.

Small jobs welcome

"I hired Quantum because I needed to have a 30amp plug and transfer breaker circuit installed for my generator to connect to my house. Quantum also added a 30 amp service to my garage for my camper hook up. Mike made sure the project was done to code and looks great also. He was very professional and completed the job in the time promised. Both projects were very fair priced. I have had contractors and neighbors ask for his information after seeing the great work on my projects. I highly recommend Quantum and will use them again for sure."

"The electrician, Chris, arrived within the time frame provided when the appointment was made. He introduced himself, then gathered the necessary tools from his truck.  He was very efficient, professional, courteous and personable.  He took all used parts with him and ensured furniture that was moved to gain access was restored to its original location.

The entire experience was very positive - from making the appointment with the owner of the company through the installation of the replacement parts.  I will definitely use Go Green Electric for all future electrical needs and encourage others to give them a try.  It was evident from my conversations with the owner that this company truly emphasizes customer satisfaction."

Generator Install questions, answered by experts

Most homeowners won't be able to claim a home generator as a tax write-off. However, a whole-house generator may be tax-deductible in certain situations depending on its purpose. For instance, if it's needed to power essential medical equipment, it may qualify as a medical expense deduction. Also, in some cases, businesses can deduct a generator as a business expense if it supports operations. Always consult a tax professional to determine eligibility based on your specific circumstances and the applicable IRS regulations.

No, you should never plug a generator directly into a wall outlet in your house. This practice is extremely dangerous, often illegal, and can cause "back-feeding," where power from the generator flows back into utility lines, creating a life-threatening hazard for utility workers. It can also damage your home's electrical system, including appliances like pumps and HVAC fans. If the main power is restored while the generator is connected, it can destroy the generator and cause an electrical fire. To safely connect a generator, you must use a professionally installed transfer switch or an interlocking kit, which prevents back-feeding by disconnecting your home from the utility grid before the generator provides power.

While natural gas generators are costly, they’re a great option for standby power due to the reliability of natural gas as a fuel source. Unlike other fuels, natural gas is delivered through underground pipes, making outages extremely rare and less likely to be affected by the elements. As long as the area isn’t prone to earthquakes, they offer an unlimited supply of natural gas that doesn’t degrade over time or require storage in tanks.

Sizing a generator is a careful process that requires calculating the electrical load of your entire house. You have to take into account every device you want to use and their wattage requirements, plus the wattage needed to start them, and look for a generator that can safely run all that at around 80% capacity.

In more practical terms, a small home can run on a 10,000-watt generator (and if you only want to power a few key appliances, much less than that). A mid-sized home may need something between 15,000 and 22,000 watts. Larger homes require 25,000 watts or more.

To reduce AC startup power for a whole-house generator, install a soft start kit or hard start capacitor, which lowers the initial surge by gradually ramping up the compressor. Using a smart load manager can also help by staggering startup loads, preventing a system overload and future costly repairs.
