"I just pay $75 you never know who's going to come out. They do everything electrical. Just about everything is covered except the septic tank. I had an air conditioner replaced. It went great, all I had to do was pay for the freon. He didn't charge e more than what was needed."

Although cesspits may be necessary depending on your main sewage system access or nearby soil quality, they carry a few drawbacks. Cesspools require regular emptying and have relatively high maintenance and pumping costs. Never use Drano on blocked toilets. You can end up with a ghastly leak because the chemicals eat away at the glue that holds pipes together just as effectively as they do with clogs. Drano is known for being particularly rough on toilets, which is why some plumbers actually dislike the product. 

While you can drain water softener backwash into a septic tank, doing so may cause several problems. One problem is that increased sodium chloride levels from water softener backwash can kill septic tank bacteria, decreasing the effectiveness of this wastewater treatment system. Another issue is that large calcium deposits can eventually stop up the drain field and lead to poor drainage. 

You can find your septic tank using a few different methods. For one, you can check your property records at your local municipal office. You can also inspect your yard looking for a depression, a septic tank lid, or lush septic-area vegetation which would indicate a leach field. You can also follow your pipes from the home to the yard. If you can't find your septic tank on your own, a local septic pro can help.

A submersible pump should be at least 10 feet from the bottom of the well to minimize the risk of the pump drawing debris into the well water. Submersible pumps work best for wells that are 25 feet deep or less. If you have a deeper well, choose a jet pump instead of a submersible model.
