"I was aware that my old heat pump was on its last legs. Installed in 2000 I was told to expect it to last about 10-12 years. The air handler/furnace dated back to the year the house was built, 1983. I had a problem with the heat pump running out of freon back in March of this year. At that time the Bakers tech warned that the unit was very likely to go soon. He charged me $300 for replacing the freon and said if the heat pump failed within six months, Bakers would apply the money toward a replacement. Sure enough it failed a few months later. The way the air handler was configured, the hot water heater had to be removed to replace the furnace. This unit was very old as well and Bakers was able to replace it with a new one with no charge for labor as the furnace replacement required the hot water heater to be removed anyway. They also gave me a 10% discount on the cost of the water heater and applied the $300 credit as promised. The crew arrived promptly as scheduled, worked quickly, and cleaned up very thoroughly upon completing the work.

"They did a great job. They solved all the problems I had with the chimney and it’s been working perfectly ever since. They also fixed a problem on the roof around the chimney; they replaced the wood around the chimney with a material that would never rot, so they fixed it even better than it was before. It took them a couple of days to do the work. They took care of all the cleanup as well. We've been real happy with them."

I had just moved into my new home and had a few issues that needed to be dealt with. I ran out of propane and needed to have the tanks filled. The company came out to fill the tanks, but did not turn the gas on. No hot water, no cooking. They would not be out in my area (King George) until the following week. I was referred to Rescue 1 Plumbing and Gas. Larry Counts was on time, professional, honest and upfront about costs for the repairs.I called him on a Friday evening, and he was at my house to turn the gas on Saturday morning. Six days before the other guys could/would come out. It was quick and painless. And called the next day to make sure all was well. While he was here, we addressed the plumbing issues I was having. He came back a few days later to fix those issues. (It was a minor rebuild on a toilet and replaced a water pipe under my kitchen sink.) He was on time, professional, and honest. I plan on using this company for all my plumbing and gas needs for the future. I recommend Rescue 1 Plumbing and Gas to all my friends.

"Called and left a message after hours, they called first thing the next morning. They had other jobs in front of ours that ran a little late, but they were able to come that same day. They had a motorized snake that they ran to unclog to drain.

"I found Hipp Masonry on Angie's list along with 2 other vendors that were rated about the same. All 3 were rated good. I called all 3 and Chuck (owner) called me back within a couple of hours. 1 other vendor called me back several days later, never heard from the last one. Chuck said he was available to come over and look at the job the same afternoon so that was great. He came over and we looked at the outside of the fireplace and the chimney and we discussed some options. Chuck is a very nice gentlemen and it was clear he was very knowledgeable about his business. He also looked at our front porch that needs some work. He got back to me in a couple of days, gave us a price on both the fireplace and the porch, told me if i did the porch work he would do the fireplace for free. That sounded like a pretty good deal but we did think the porch price was a little high and with the holiday's coming we decided to hold off on the porch and get the fireplace done. Here is the deal. The fireplace was very poorly designed as in the opening of the fireplace was way to large for the size of the flue and the height of the chimney. Smoke would come out the front of the fireplace because there was too much air and not enough draft. Our fireplace company suggested we raise the bottom of the firebox to decrease the opening and bring the fire grate closer to the flue. We tested this before hand by putting bricks under the grate to raise it up and it worked but the fire required too much attention because the coals were too far a from the logs. What Hipp Masonry did was install a new layer of fire brick on the bottom and then install a row of bricks cut in half in front of the new layer of fire brick that matched the brick on the exterior of the fireplace. It is actually a 10 foot wall of brick with the fireplace at one end.The match is not perfect, but it close and it looks great. The gentlemen that the performed work, did a terrific job and it was clear he knew what he was doing as well. He answered all my questions and was meticulous about the craftsmanship. We are extremely pleased with how it turned out. We can't wait for it to dry and cure so we can use it. We will be calling Hipp Masonry back to do our porch work in the spring. Based on the job they did on the fireplace, I am sure the porch will turn out great as well. Highly recommend this company.

Gas Logs questions, answered by experts

The cost of a gas grill burner ranges from $10 to $100 or more, depending on the brand. If you’re replacing one burner, consider replacing all the burners simultaneously. Although it will cost more upfront, it will save you the hassle of replacing a burner every few months, and your grill will cook more evenly and efficiently.

Local codes often mandate specific fittings, permits, and vent considerations for permitted function and safety, which are enforced by professionals.

Gas grill installation costs around $540 on average, not including the price of the actual grill, and most homeowners pay between $120 and $1,400. This total will go toward laying down a new gas line, connecting it to your existing gas system, pressure testing the line, and connecting it to your grill. Your total project price will depend on the length of the gas line, whether or not the line needs to be installed underground, and the cost of the permits in your area.

The most significant benefit of having a gas grill over a propane grill is that you never run out of fuel unless there’s an outage in your area, which is rare. Unlike with a propane grill, you’ll never need to haul tanks back and forth to a local fill station, and you’ll never find yourself unable to use your grill because you forgot to refill your tanks. Gas grills also burn slightly cleaner than propane grills, and natural gas costs significantly less than propane, meaning it’s more affordable to run your grill.

Most likely, a gas plumber would be the best pro for many components in your home, and you might not even realize it. Natural gas plumbers are responsible for maintaining and installing natural gas lines, including installing appliances that use natural gas. These can include:

  • Fireplaces

  • Water heaters

  • Furnaces

  • Hot tubs

  • Clothes dryers

  • Ovens

  • Outdoor grills

Gas plumbers are also the pros that would handle a natural gas leak in your home, so it's essential to know the signs of a gas leak before it becomes a dangerous situation.
