I called Gina Majors to schedule a consultation regarding mold and asbestos in my house. I had spoken to some contractors during the last month and had received advice that left me with more questions.  Fortunately, Gina happened to be close by when I called her and she was able to come to the house within a few minutes. She was pleasant, professional and extremely knowledgeable. She answered all of my questions clearly and "undid" my confusion. She made some easy recommendations to address my concerns after inspecting the downstairs rooms and taking some humidity readings indoors and outside.  I wish I had called Gina before seeing the contractors.  I would have had the expert advice that I needed.

She charged me a very reasonable price.  I told her it was too low and actually paid her a little more. She is kind.

"We received an asbestos inspection/test for our old plaster walls and ceiling areas. The turn around times were fantastic - inspector was in our area and able to fit us in the same day I called. Sample results and accompanying lab report were emailed within 36 hours. All samples were analyzed by a local lab accredited under the NIST NVLAP Asbestos Fiber Analysis Lab Accreditation Program, so I felt comfortable trusting the results. The inspector seemed very knowledgeable and helped walk us through any areas that could be of concern. Thankfully all samples were negative, but the modest inspection and sampling fees were well worth the piece of mind during our remodel. "I knew there was mold in the corner of the basement, but when a heat pump cleaning showed that it was spreading throughout the house,  I decided to do something about it right away.  Jumping to the end of the story--the black mold has been removed and the areas seems ok.  Mr. Johnson of Environmental Trust Solutions recommended having the air quality tested and I plan to do that.
However my experience with Environmental Trust Solutions was far from satisfactory.  My first mistake was failing to read carefully the reviews on Angie's List.  I just called and asked to have the mold problem evaluated.  My next mistake was accepting Mr. Johnson's response that he would come the very next day and bring a crew with him..
He came as promised.  He said they could take care of the mold problem and described what would be done.  Another mistake on my part was not insisting on a written estimate or agreement.  He did not offer anything written.  He gave me a price which I suspected was too high, but I must have stopped thinking by that time and accepted it.
So they went to work and as far as I can tell did an acceptable job.  They used a machine with a plastic tube to vent the moldy air.  They had to replace one stud and a section of the wall board.  They used a water proofing material on the affected area and on an adjacent section of the wall for good measure.  They cleaned up very well.
Mr. Johnson emailed me a certificate of completion.  It says his work is guaranteed, provided there is no leakage.  He did not say anything about the condition of the soil outside this part of the basement wall that could cause leakage.  But I plan to have that checked also.  

This company did the job I paid them for in spite of my doubts. I followed the recommendation to have another company test for mold several days later. The other company confirmed that everything is fine and my basement is free of mold.
