"Jan. 20, 2021 We recently needed to have a major foundation issue looked at and evaluated prior to purchasing a house in Stephens City. Tony, from Lux, showed up before the appointed time, was very professional, was thorough in evaluating the foundation issue, took pics of the area in question, was very knowledgeable and easy to talk to about the issue, and he provided a very detailed report with photos. His evaluation was clear and gave us confidence enough to purchase the property. We would highly recommend this company! T.C. Stephens City"

"I hired Ernest Waterproofing to install a water drainage system in my crawl space. I could not be happier with the great communication, expertise, and the final product. First, I had one of the big well known (you know them) foundation companies come out and they quoted me 8k higher. Further, Ernesto's diagnosis and recommended course of action was the exact same...but Ernesto's quote included more services (more footage of drainage area, full encapsulation, waterproof painting, electrical, access door to crawl space, etc.). They did an amazing job! They were careful, clean and precise. They really minimized any mess from what is very much a dirty, muddy messy project in very tight spaces. I was especially appreciative of them going above and beyond. When they pulled up some of my deck to lay the sump pump drainage pipe, they noticed some of the decks support beams underneath had some rot...and they proactively installed new support beams (no charge or anything!!). I'm so glad I supported this local company...and Im so happy with the outcome. I so highly recommend them, you will be getting a great service at a very fair price!!!"

"Other than some difficulty in scheduling communications I could not be more pleased.  Jake was able to offer his own insights and suggestions to what we were looking to do with the bathroom in our new basement (finishing the basement from unfinished).  His suggestions saved us several thousand dollars and did not change our layout dramatically at all.  We love our bathroom and basement (which passed final inspection today)!  We will be using this company again.  We have two more projects which include plumbing and will not question the quality of the work A-Master provided."

Foundation Drain Installation questions, answered by experts

A sewage ejector pump is necessary if you have any plumbing fixtures, such as a bathroom, laundry room, or sink, located below the level of your home's main sewer line. Standard plumbing relies on gravity to move wastewater and solid waste to the municipal sewer or septic tank. However, for fixtures located below grade (e.g., in a basement), gravity is not sufficient.

The purpose of a sewage ejector pump is to actively pump this wastewater and solid waste upward into the main sewer line. Without an ejector pump in this situation, wastewater would have no way to exit and would eventually back up, causing a sewage overflow or flooding in your basement. If all of your home's plumbing is on the main floor or higher, gravity can handle the drainage, and an ejector pump is not needed.

There are a few possible sump pump drainage locations, including a neighborhood storm drain, into a creek or pond, or underground. Don’t let your sump pump water go into your sewer or septic system. Ideally, your drainage spot should be on a downhill slope that’s at least 10 to 20 feet away from your home’s foundation. Before choosing a location, check your local codes and regulations.

If the time has come to install a French drain in your yard, basement, or crawl space, there's a solid chance you've been battling water damage—or the threat of water damage—around these areas. Thankfully, proper drainage should allow you to redesign these areas of your home without the fear of being inundated during the next storm. If you've had to remove a portion of your lawn for an exterior French or curtain drain, consider reseeding your lawn to patch up the spot. You can also take this opportunity to enhance your foundation waterproofing methods or even start thinking about finishing your basement .

Most people consider a French drain to be one of the most effective solutions for foundation leaks, but it’s not always a standalone solution. French drains will help keep water away from your foundation to reduce the risk of leaking and structural damage from soil expansion, but depending on your foundation type and location, you might need other systems or techniques—like soil gradation and gutter and leader installation—to resolve the underlying problem.

Yes, you can install a sump pump yourself. By following the steps above, you can have a sump pump installed in 24 hours. You will have to use some advanced tools and techniques, so if you feel uneasy about taking it on yourself, it’s best to hire a professional.
