"Mike, the franchisee, and his assistant not only did a great job cleaning/sanitizing our bents but Mike gave me lots of very helpful advice. Most importantly, our dryer would've caught on fire soon if we hadn't had the dryer duct serviced. Our HVAC vents are now clean & the air in our home now smells MUCH better. And no fires!"

"I did not realize about the vent cleaning and I called them and they gave me prompt service. Good customer service from office when making appointment and the gentlemen that came were so nice and worked so hard. Best customer service I have had In long time. They did a great job. Give them a call if you need vents cleaned as it can help your allergies and safety. I am so glad I got this done and I would recommend people get their vents and return ducts clean. It will help your breathing and you cannot imagine the dust that are in them. They clean them and also spray for mole. Thank you T & M for the good service. This day and time when customer service is not very good, you are tops in my list. Thank you! Donna and Glenn Hicks"

"Murphy Family Electric is an awesome company with very competent technicians and reasonable rates. They make the whole process pretty straightforward. I had used them to get my Tesla charger in 2018 (Cost: $799 including material). I was so impressed with their work that when I had a complex electrical job - installing a new 120v outlet requiring a new wire from the circuit breaker - I did not get any quotes but just booked them. That job was done very professionally as well (Cost: $949). Fast forward to Mar 2025, my tesla charger had problems with over heating and intermittent power loss. I called Murphy Family Electric and they sent a technician the same day who came and adjusted/cleaned the connections and spent 30 mins fixing the problem. And to my surprise the company did not even charge me anything for this. So on top of everything else you can add absolutely fantastic customer service to their list of attributes."

"We had our ancient oil-fired boiler replaced with a natural gas, modern unit and separate hot water heater. On the one hand, it seemed like anything that could go wrong, did go wrong. On the other, we are very happy with the end result. The reason for my excellent rating is that this company responded to all of the issues quickly and decently. When a water leak under the house and another issue caused us to be without water (and hot water) for a night, they sent us to a hotel and paid for it. The owner, Andy Anderson, is a stand up guy. The (many!) extra pieces of work that had to be done (some possibly caused by the workers, but equally possibly due to old piping in a 96 year old house) were done at no extra cost to us, because he stands by his company, the quality of work, and cares about his company's reputation. If one guy didn't know how to do something, another was sent to deal with it, and make it right. Andy saw to the final check personally, which meant a lot to us- the end result is a perfectly functioning boiler and hot water heater. We would highly recommend this company and we are very happy."

Heating and Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

A home AC unit provides anywhere from one-half to five tons of cooling and requires approximately two to four pounds of refrigerant per ton of cooling. At approximately five to 10 minutes to fill one pound of refrigerant, a home that requires three tons of cooling will take about six to 12 pounds of refrigerant and approximately 30 minutes to two hours to completely recharge the unit.

You need to know the square footage of your home first. Multiply that number by 20, which will get you the BTUs (British Thermal Units) needed to cool your home efficiently. Homes up to 1,000 square feet usually need a 1.5-ton unit; homes 1,000 to 1,200 square feet usually need a 1.75-ton unit, and homes 1,200 to 1,400 square feet usually need a 1.9-ton unit. Talk to a local pro for more specific advice on your home.

The $5,000 rule for HVAC systems helps homeowners decide whether to repair or replace an AC or furnace. Take the quote for the HVAC repair cost and multiply that by the age of the HVAC system. If the total is higher than $5,000, it’s more cost-effective to replace the system. If the total is lower than $5,000, consider repairing the system.

Mold in your air conditioner isn't a good thing, as it can be harmful to your health. If the mold travels through the ductwork or is blown out of the A/C, you and your family can inhale mold spores and develop respiratory illnesses and other problems. Preventing mold from growing in the air conditioner will help protect your health.

Turn your system off when you're toasty or when you're out to prevent unnecessary wear. Using the timer on your thermostat so that it switches off when it reaches a certain temperature or turns on just before you get back from work is best. An annual maintenance contract can be helpful to ensure your system receives these important services at regular intervals.
