"Provider was suppose to return and finish laying sand on the patio. Since job was very close to complete, I paid him rather than wait. I never heard from him again. The sand has since washed out in spots and another provider is correcting the situation with polymeric sand. Other than the sand issue, the patio looks good in the way it is laid out. Provider was punctual, and the project went very fast considering it was in the middle of the winter.

Fencing questions, answered by experts

To keep fencing in top shape in Abingdon, inspect posts and hardware each spring for frost heave and shifting. During humid summers, look for mildew, rust, and warping, especially on wood or metal fences. In fall, clear leaves and branches to prevent moisture buildup, and before winter, reinforce weak spots and monitor for ice or animal damage. This routine helps address Abingdon’s changing weather and soil conditions.

Helpful?

Professionals in Abingdon start by reviewing a property survey to confirm exact boundaries and avoid encroachment. They check for visible markers and consult county records for any discrepancies. Before digging, they ensure underground utilities are marked and verify setback requirements with the planning department. Special attention is given to properties near historic districts or uneven terrain, where additional guidelines or unique boundary challenges may exist.

Helpful?

Fencing work in Abingdon can impact drainage, underground utilities, and septic fields, especially in older neighborhoods or areas with clay soil. Before installation, assess how the new fence might alter water runoff or restrict access to septic systems. If your property is sloped or near retaining walls, consider how the fence could influence soil stability and moisture flow, helping prevent future foundation or yard issues.

Helpful?

Before starting fencing in Abingdon, review your property survey to confirm boundaries and discuss plans with neighbors if lines are unclear. Check local setback and permit requirements, especially if your home is near a historic district. Have underground utilities marked, test soil for drainage, and order materials early to avoid supply delays. Allow extra time for weather changes and permit processing, particularly in rural areas.

Helpful?

In Abingdon, small fencing projects often finish within a few days, while medium ones may take up to a week. Larger or more complex installations, especially on sloped lots or properties with dense clay soil, can extend to two weeks. Seasonal weather—like spring rains or winter freezes—can cause delays, as can waiting for material deliveries or permit approvals specific to the region.
