"When they inspected my chimney they discovered that my chimney was was never rebuilt correctly, they took pictures that showed mortar was only partially applied and there were cracks . They filled in and sealed what was needed. They also advised me to have my chimney cleaned after burning a cord of word. They offered a warranty on their work and will keep a record of what was done with the pictures. I was pleased especially after I have had more the a few companies clean my chimney and even had one iinstall an insert and no one ever mentioned the condition of my chimney.

"Fernando cut and removed all the mortar joints on my stone walkway. Then he installed new mortar. He showed up on the date and time we discussed and the work was completed on time. He was clean and respectful of my property. He took the time to carefully remove old mortar and preserve our existing stones. The walkway looks great and we plan on hiring Fernando again!"

"

I needed Joe and his son Tony on two occasions over the past two months.  Each time, I was met with friendly, on time service and very fair pricing.  Joe is very conscientious about doing a good job, and I like the chemistry he and his son have.  They work well together, fast and efficient.

Joe takes great pride in his work.  Of course, I'm in a rush to get things done, but after a particularly rainy weekend, Joe completed half my job one day and recommended that I wait two more days to let the bricks dry out as the humidity and moisture in the bricks were making the job look presentable but not right.  Joe wanted to do it right, which I respect.

I would use Brick Solutions again and again, and I would have no problem referring them to anyone else.

"Derrick was so professional and so knowledgeable about installing our wood stove into our coal fireplace. We had been given a quote from a competitor several months prior that was $2500.00 more. Also, I found out that the way they would have installed it would have created serious problems in the future. Great company!!!! Thanks for installing our wood stove. It is working great!!!! Derricks Chimney Service is the only company I will use in the future or recommend."

"He was professional from start to finish. We had a few delays due to product needing to be ordered but he was on time when he said he would be at our house. Ben, the owner did a large portion of the work himself and that really pleased us that he was so involved. The railings in our home look beautiful and the front door is going to be the finishing touch. All work is top notch.
He is on our short list of who to call if something needs repaired, replaced or spruced up.

Fireplaces questions, answered by experts

Completing gas log service ensures your home stays warm during Abingdon’s cold winters and frequent ice storms. Because standing pilot systems operate without electricity, you retain a reliable heat source during power outages. Proper servicing also maintains excellent indoor air quality by preventing the particulate matter found in wood fires. This provides efficient comfort during the damp spring and fall shoulder seasons.

Helpful?

Before scheduling gas log service, you can safely relight a pilot light or verify the manual shutoff valve is open, provided there is no gas odor. Visually inspect ceramic logs and ensure your damper remains fully open. After severe Abingdon winter storms, check the exterior chimney cap from the ground for debris. Always hire a licensed professional for any repairs involving gas lines or internal valves.

Helpful?

When planning gas log service, first confirm whether your system uses natural gas or propane, as rural Washington County homes often rely on propane. You must hire a state-licensed contractor to ensure compliance with VA building codes. Additionally, inspect original masonry chimneys in historic homes for proper lining. Schedule your service in late summer to avoid delays before the peak winter heating season begins.

Helpful?

In the short term, regular gas log service provides reliable heat during severe winter weather while reducing the strain on your central HVAC system. Over the long term, consistent maintenance extends the lifespan of your appliance and preserves the historic masonry chimneys common throughout Abingdon. Routine servicing also ensures ongoing compliance with VA safety codes and provides necessary documentation for your homeowners insurance policy.

Helpful?

Address gas log service immediately if you detect gas odors, activate a carbon monoxide detector, or notice black soot around the firebox. Evacuate and call emergency services for any gas smells. You can schedule routine maintenance or minor cosmetic fixes in advance during the warmer months. Complete all deferred maintenance by early October to ensure reliable operation before Abingdon experiences its first cold snap.
