"Alex ran this project as well and got help from Chris and his crew to zero scape my front yard. Rocks, 2 flower beds, and a long bush/tree bed. With some boulders. "Can't say enough about Summit Asphalt. Had our church, located in Sandy, UT sealed. This is an old parking lot that was first paved in 1985. Have had other company's do a seal job and was only halfway done. Chris at Summit listened to our issues with an old parking lot and came up with a beautiful solution. Job was done on time and at a reasonable price. Would recommend them for all asphalt jobs. Great to work with!!"

Paver driveways are durable and aesthetically pleasing, but they do have a few cons. For instance, paver driveways are often more expensive than asphalt and concrete driveways. They also make it easier for weeds to grow where the separate pavers meet up. They may also be more likely to settle over time.

If your driveway is cracked, you can repave it with a process called asphalt overlay. Overlay is more cost-effective than a full replacement but is better suited for minor cracks and issues. If you have major cracks or other problems like water pooling, asphalt overlay isn’t your best bet. Plus, paving over a cracked driveway only extends the lifetime by about 10 years, whereas replacing it would start the clock over completely to give you up to 30 years.

You’ll first need to install a base underneath your pavers for extra stability and drainage. Otherwise, the pavers can sink into the ground, and you’ll have to reinstall them. Use a base gravel layer of 4 to 6 inches for walkways and 10 to 12 inches for driveways. Compact your gravel layer every 2 to 4 inches so it’s nice and solid. After you install your gravel base, apply a 1-inch layer of sand on top.
