"Guillermo did a wonderful job on the exterior of my home...painting a brick wall, all the woodwork, including the garage door, front door and deck. He was very professional, pleasant and punctual. His crew of three arrived early each morning and let me know when they were finished for the day. I will definitely use Friends Painting again"

"Vargas Painting gave us a reasonable bid. They showed up right when they said they would, despite blizzard. They did the work in one day, as promised. And, most importantly, did a beautiful job. I am so happy with Vargas Painting. I would definitely use them again."

"We had J&M refinish our redwood deck this summer after our disastrous decision to have 'opaque' stain (read paint) applied 4 years ago by another company. Billy's workers were thorough and diligent and pleasant. They did a great job and we look forward to using the deck often during the rest of this and many seasons, We are VERY pleased with the work and the price."

Small jobs welcome

"I was worried about hiring an outside company to paint and to pay 1/2 upfront. JOSE CHAVEZ assured me he was trustworthy.we shook hands. At the end of the job we hugged. He gave me an excellent job. He was careful nothing was ruined. His crew did more than what was required. I will hire Jose Chavez next time."

Customers say: True professional

"Elliot was excellent to work with and does excellent work. He gave us a fair bid and did what he said he would do. He went above and beyond in our garage on patching and repair. He prides himself in doing the job right! He is pleasant to be around and pays attention to detail and knows the right products to use to get the best results. We would recommend Elliot to friends and family for interior and exterior painting services."

"Overall, the final result was an excellent paint job that we are very happy with. Along the way, we had some difficulties. Painter 1 is a franchise that subcontracts with independent painters to do the work. Unfortunately, the painters contracted to do our job were less than adequate. Fortunately, Painter 1 stood by their guarantee and made sure the work was done right. They even went above and beyond. So while initially, we were not happy with the work, they were very professional, listened to our complaints and concerns, and took care of correcting the issue in a very timely manner."

Painting questions, answered by experts

The best way to prepare your vinyl fence for a paint job is to clean it with warm, soapy water and rinse it with a hose or pressure washer on a low setting. Be sure to let it totally dry, then sand the surface before applying an epoxy-based primer. After the primer, you're ready to paint your vinyl fence.

The best time to stain a fence is when the weather is dry and temperatures are between 50 and 90 degrees Fahrenheit. Late spring, early summer, and fall are typically the best seasons for this project. You should avoid staining during very hot weather, like in the middle of summer, or when it is raining. Heat and moisture can cause the stain to dry unevenly. Likewise, if it's too cold, such as in winter or early spring, the stain may not be able to dry fully. Before you start, check the forecast to ensure there will be no rain and low humidity for at least a few days.

Generally, these steps are included in exterior house painting:

  • Prepping and protecting the areas not being painted

  • Scraping away loose paint

  • Cleaning off dirt, grease, and debris

  • Caulking gaps and openings

  • Priming with a quality paint primer

  • Painting the prepared areas, including trim and accents with chosen paint finish

  • Adding a second coat

  • Cleaning up the site and disposing of tape, plastic, and drop cloths

Maintain your wattle fence by inspecting it at least twice per year for loose weaving and degrading branches. Replace any seriously degraded sections, ensure water drains properly around the posts, and trim any sprouting branches if you used green wood. If you notice the weave loosening, you can often tighten it by gently pushing down on the top branches. You can also apply a natural wood preservative every two to three years to extend the fence's lifespan.

Shadowbox fence maintenance depends on the material. But for wood shadowbox fences, maintenance typically includes annual cleaning to prevent mold growth, resealing or staining every two to three years, and promptly replacing any damaged or rotted boards. Vinyl fencing, on the other hand, typically only requires annual cleaning with a hose to maintain its appearance.
