"Excellent work from start to finish! It was a huge job and we had just been burned by a previous contractor on a different project so I was hesitant. They showed up when they said they would, had timely communication, cared about making it right, quality workmanship, great problem-solving and team work, very friendly and honest and hard-working. I can't recommend them enough and would be happy to hire them again for any project at our home! Thank you, Romero Landscaping--we are exceptionally happy with a beautiful yard and a job well done!"

"We have a sprinkler system that is about 40 years old. It was still manual and going out and turning the sprinklers on and off was a PITA. It also allowed sand to get into the sprinkler system so we had leaks and could not shut them down enough to stop it. Miguel came out and moved the sprinkler boxes so he could install new parts and put gravel in the boxes the way they should have been in the first place. We live in South Weber, which is a gravel pit. Digging in our yard is not easy and it is not fun. Miguel and Luis did an amazing job. I do not even think they took a lunch break. Miguel also automated our system so we will no longer have to set the alarm on our phones so we remember to turn the water on and off when it is our watering time. They left things beautiful. They cleaned up after themselves and the area looks great, better than before when we had gaping holes where the boxes were. I am so glad we found Affordable Lawn and Sprinkler Repair. We will be referring them to everyone we know and using them for any future needs."

"Justin was amazing. Came right over to my house and had the crew here the next day. They did a phenomenal job and got my yard ready for winter. Looking forward to spring when I will have them back. In addition im looking at a new office location and their commercial experience makes them just right for the landscaping care and maintenance."

Landscaping questions, answered by experts

The best type of rock for landscaping depends on your specific project and needs, as different rocks are suited for different applications. For covering large areas or creating an affordable driveway, consider gravel, but note that it can wash away in flowing water. For water features, river rocks are a good option. Flagstone and cobblestone are ideal for aesthetically pleasing patios and walkways. If you are building a stone wall, fieldstone or small boulders are up to the task. Large boulders and landscape rocks work well as statement pieces, to fill empty space, or to indicate boundaries, but be mindful that they can overwhelm smaller gardens. The best approach is to first define your landscaping project and then select the rock type that best fits that purpose.

As with anything you do near your foundation, you’ll want to ensure proper drainage when you plant your foundation beds. Your drainage should run downhill from the highest point against your foundation to avoid water intrusion and incurring expensive foundation repair costs.

Environmental considerations include native plant selection, wildlife habitation, erosion prevention measures, and managing water runoff patterns to protect the lakefront ecosystem.

If you choose to leave gaps between your pavers, you can grow some ground cover plants between them for an organic feel. Look for plants such as creeping thyme, dymondia, jewel mint of Corsica, or clover.

In most cases, buying plants from a local greenhouse or nursery is well worth the investment, even though they tend to be a bit more expensive than those at a home improvement store. Employees at nurseries are usually well-versed in gardening and understand how the climate in your area affects different plants. They can help you make selections based on your skill level and time commitment to your landscaping, and they can provide detailed care instructions and advice to help keep your plants alive and diagnose and treat issues like pest infestation and illness.
