"We recently hired JH Concrete to pour a patio in our backyard, and we couldn't be happier with the results. From the initial estimate to the final cleanup, their team was professional, punctual, and easy to work with. They took the time to properly prepare the area, paid attention to every detail, and delivered a high-quality finished product that exceeded our expectations. The patio looks fantastic and has completely transformed our outdoor space into an area our family can enjoy for years to come. The crew worked hard, communicated well throughout the project, and kept the job site clean and organized. If you're looking for a reliable concrete contractor who takes pride in their work and delivers exceptional results, I highly recommend JH Concrete. "Initial quote was just for driveway - everything was prepped and at the last minute, and in the middle of the job, I decided I needed a foundation and footings poured. Sione (owner) was able to adjust his teams schedule and made it happen even though this complicated the overall job quite a bit. If you have anything more complicated than a pad, driveway pour, etc. I'd suggest getting some blueprints in place and make sure they are clear. We ran into a few miscommunications based on what I wanted and what I conveyed....blueprints would have made things very clear and easy to follow. Again, not completely their fault as things changed drastically at the last minute by my own choosing. Also make sure all items are added to the contract so there are clear terms to what is expected on both sides. They worked fast and got the job done quickly. Cleanup at night was incredible - they left my yard in great condition and I was impressed with how they swept up any loose gravel, dirt, or rocks. The finish work made this entire job worth it. I looked at a few other competitors finish works (local jobs) and there was a huge difference in quality. The final touches on my driveway were impeccable and I will absolutely hire Sione and team for my next concrete needs. Bid was easy.....job was done fast....and the overall finished product exceeded my expectations. Side note: I bought the crew pizza a couple times throughout the week and they are all great men with good work ethic. It was a pleasure having them working in my yard."

Foundation Repair questions, answered by experts

Tree roots don’t necessarily break through concrete on their own, but they can certainly take advantage of existing cracks, even very small ones. As roots grow, they expand the cracks, making them larger and leading to serious and costly foundation damage. It’s a good idea to have repairs on any foundation cracks you’re concerned about.

Yes, slab foundations can sink just like any other foundation type. Floating slabs are the most prone to differential settlement and foundation sinking because they sit directly on the surface of the earth. Slab foundations that have footings—including slab-on-grade foundations and monolithic slab foundations—get additional support from soil further down and are less likely to sink over time, especially under larger, heavier structures.

Overwatering can cause issues like water pooling and drainage problems. To prevent overwatering, monitor your soil levels on a regular basis and change your watering schedule as necessary.

Most single-story homes don't have foundations strong enough to support a second story, but they can be reinforced for an addition. A structural engineer can assess your foundation and what needs to be done to get it ready. They'll look at any cracks or unevenness in your current foundation and consider any special framing or beams your home needs, especially if it’s in a high-wind or hurricane area.

“To support a second story, many structural engineers will require that you install additional concrete piers in the crawlspace,” says Tschudi. “This involves hand excavating, pouring a large concrete footing—usually with specially coated rebar—and then building concrete piers right up to the girders.”

Yes, thicker concrete is less likely to crack. The thicker the concrete is, the less susceptible it is to extreme changes in weather conditions that often cause concrete to crack or chip. If you’re unable to install a thicker concrete driveway for any reason, you can also ask your professional to install more rebar or wire mesh to provide greater strength and better resilience to damage.
