"Dan installed a new electrical panel, a new outdoor outlet for my rv, ran wire to the other side of the house and installed another upgraded outlet for my electric kiln. It was a messy job but at the end you couldnâ  t tell he had been there. He was reasonably priced and I intend to use him again."

"The home I bought in Sandy, UT needed a whole new electrical panel, according to the inspector's report. TOR gave me an estimate, which seemed reasonable, I accepted the estimate, and work was scheduled. The office staff made arrangements with the power company and the city for power to the house to be off for the day so the work could be done. Four professional, friendly TOR employees arrived and began their work on time. They seemed to work well together as a team and all seemed fully competent and well trained. They had the inspector come after they had removed the old panel and had started installing the new panel. The inspector did his work, chatted with the TOR guys for a few minutes, then gave his okay and left. The TOR guys finished their work on the panel, then inspected inside the house to be sure all of the outlets were correct - all had covers, all near sinks had "safety" outlets, etc. They took care of everything on the checklist. After all the work was completed, the inspector returned to give final approval and the power was turned back on. The whole project took about 6-7 hours. TOR went above and beyond, when I requested they add a hot tub hookup. Everyone I came in contact with from TOR did a great job, from office staff to the guy checking the electric outlets. They were professional and helpful, answering all my questions. They charged me the exact amount of the original estimate. I'm very happy with the work they did. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this company for any residential electrical services. Great job!"

"Cubix Power did a great job helping me run some wire for our game room. We wanted some extra power for our gaming PCs and Ethernet cables ran so we could be directly plugged into our fiber service. Insanely clean job, priced very good and fast! I’ll be hiring them for our basement when we finish it in the future. Thank you guys!"

Generator Install questions, answered by experts

A home that is 2,500 square feet will likely need a 20kW to 25kW generator. Consult your local generator installer to confirm the generator size needed to power your home before purchasing a new one. Be sure to consider how much power your necessary devices need to run.

Most homeowners won't be able to claim a home generator as a tax write-off. However, a whole-house generator may be tax-deductible in certain situations depending on its purpose. For instance, if it's needed to power essential medical equipment, it may qualify as a medical expense deduction. Also, in some cases, businesses can deduct a generator as a business expense if it supports operations. Always consult a tax professional to determine eligibility based on your specific circumstances and the applicable IRS regulations.

Natural gas and electricity rates vary significantly based on location, and pricing can change over time, too. It’s possible that in locations where natural gas is particularly inexpensive, it will cost less than grid-based electricity will. However, you should also factor in the generator’s initial costs and maintenance needs, as well as its noise level and if it can comfortably power all your home appliances.

If you have a transfer switch properly installed, the generator and main electrical power cannot feed the system at the same time. However, you should still shut off the power at your main circuit breaker panel before activating the generator. If you do that, you’ll simply need to shut off the generator and reset your circuit breaker once the local power comes back on.

A portable generator can supply power to selected appliances and circuits in a home, but it's generally not designed to handle the entire household's electrical needs simultaneously. Portable generators have limited wattage capacity, so they are only designed to power essential devices and electronics temporarily until local power is restored. If your power needs outweigh the capabilities of a portable generator, consider installing a whole-home generator instead.
