"Bryant Construction made finishing our basement the smoothest experience we could have asked for. They have excellent communication, did a high quality job, and finished in a very timely manner. We would absolutely use them again!"

"Bill was great! He was able to build our home within 6 months, which was amazing! He was very organized and very good with communicating with us throughout the entire process. He was able to save us 15k through certain design choices! He is definitely the guy to go to to get the job done. The house looks amazing and have been in it for almost 4 months now and we love it."

"We hired Amuri and the M.A.C. Atlantic team for our shower remodel was an absolute pleasure from start to finish. When Amuri came out for the initial quote, he really listened to exactly what we wanted and made us feel heard. This is one of the reasons we hired them for the project. As other "Big" remodeling companies who insisted on ripping out the entire bathtub or remodeling the whole bathroom. They were able to focus on just the shower, which was perfect for us. The entire crew was polite, respectful of our home, and did phenomenal work. The finished shower looks even better than we imagined, perfectly matching the style and look we were going for. Communication was excellent throughout, the pricing was extremely fair and competitive compared to other quotes we received, and the quality of craftsmanship is top-notch. We've loved working with M.A.C. Atlantic and are already planning to hire them for future renovation projects. Highly recommend them to anyone looking for reliable, h"

"Weathers Construction has been our go-to for over 16 years. They built an addition, remodeled our kitchen, remodeled our bathroom, replaced our stairs, and completed many painting, electrical, and flooring projects. Their prices are fair and honest and the team is great to work with."

"Louis and his team repeatedly went above and beyond our expectations. Always focusing on what was best for the project, not what was easiest. As an example: Even though my basement was already plumbed for a bathroom, they jackhammered it out, replumbed it, and repoured the concrete. Just to buy me a few extra inches in the bathroom. It made all the difference too as the bathroom is quite small. They found a way to make it larger with hard work, even though it wasn't included in the price. They did it because it was right for the project and had respect for their work. If I ever had a question or concern, Louis was very quick to respond, giving me his experienced opinion but always respecting my wants and needs. True professionals, I cannot sing their praises enough. Thank you so much for taking care of us."

"I needed a shower door and grab bars installed. Other companies would not do the work unless a complete remodel. Cransten was fair, and matched my job with Scott Bowers. He went over and beyond to see the work was completed; even after Lowes had ordered the wrong materials for my project. Would definitely use again."

Basement Remodel questions, answered by experts

A finished basement must have a heat and electrical supply with an entrance that meets building code requirements, such as a stairwell to the home's main living space. It often must include finished walls, ceilings, and floors. If the finished basement includes a bedroom, it should have a heat source, an egress window, and a closet.

Remodeling, as opposed to finishing, means altering an already finished basement by adding a bathroom, bedroom, or living area.

Walkout basements are not generally included in a home’s square footage, although they may be if they meet certain conditions that depend on local regulations. A finished walkout basement used as a living space may be counted toward square footage in some locations as long as all codes for livable space are met.

You should always use high-quality lumber for your framing in order to ensure it will last the test of time and resist moisture. Use 2-foot by 4-foot lumber that is pressure-treated for your framing.

Renovations that add functionality or more comfortable floor space generally add the most value when remodeling your home. Attic or basement finishing can add floor space without altering the home's structure, saving you renovation money while adding valuable space. Smaller improvements, such as installing smart-home components or replacing entry doors and windows, also experience high ROIs.

Any bowing in a basement wall indicates a problem that needs to be addressed by a professional. If your basement wall bows more than 1 inch, it's time for an inspection. Generally, a wall can bow up to 30% of its thickness (around 2.5 inches for an 8-inch-thick wall) before it becomes an urgent situation. Bowing of 2 to 4 inches is more straightforward to fix than bowing of more than 4 inches, which will require significant repairs. If the bowing is more than 6 inches, the wall will likely need to be replaced. The sooner you address the problem, the easier and less expensive the repair will be.
