Small jobs welcome

"Carey knows what he is doing. He repaired our old chimney and it looks great! We were impressed at how well he cleaned up all the mess after he was finished. Everything was great. He did our neighbor's chimney after he did ours. I would hire him again and also refer him to others."

"Both Hunter and Carter were very professional, courteous and above all friendly. They arrived on time and began to evaluate the situation of lifting the badly sunken areas of our back patio which in certain areas was at 6? to 7? along the foundation. Hunter then proceeded to explain the whole operation involving the drilling, application of the polyurethane foam and sealing process. He did address a few areas of concern which involved the cracks where half of the concrete panel had lifted 3? to 4? higher than it?s original surface, and that it may not drop back down. After observing the beginning of the operation for a short time it was clearly evident that Hunter and Carter were true professionals and were intent on performing great quality and workmanship, which in the end will always provide and produce a great product. What they were able to do and accomplish of lifting our back patio was truly remarkable, and I cannot commend them enough for their hard work and due diligence."

"I was satisfied with the work completed but thought the amount charged was rather high for the length of time needed to complete the work. $800 for at most a two hour job by two men to repair cracks in the exterior brick mortar."

"Francisco was very responsive. He answered all my questions and concerns. He understood my goals and made excellent suggestions for my two car concrete driveway project. He also seemed to be the most familiar with the local code requirements. I was prepared to go with his proposal before I even saw the quotes I'd requested. He was very realistic about the time frame for completion and communicated when plans were adjusted. I couldn't be more pleased with the results. Francisco and his crew worked hard and did a great job."

Masonry questions, answered by experts

When it comes to how to paint a brick chimney, consider that standard paint can seal in moisture and cause serious chimney problems. Instead, use a vapor-permeable sealant. You’ll first scrub and sand the chimney; then, you can patch any gaps with caulk and apply the sealant. We recommend hiring a pro for this job since it entails working on the roof, which comes with a lot of necessary safety precautions.

Removing paint from brick can have both aesthetic and practical value. Some people prefer the timeless look of bare brick, making it worthwhile to remove old paint layers. Brick also lasts longer when unpainted, as paint traps moisture, causing the brick to deteriorate more quickly. If your brick walls are already in bad shape, stripping the paint off might do more harm than good.

Real stone is exactly what it sounds like: It’s real stone sourced from the earth without additives. It is durable and unique, but it’s difficult to work with because of its weight, challenge in sourcing, and high cost. Stone veneer mimics the look of real stone but is actually engineered with a mixture of Portland cement, natural minerals, and a colorant. While it’s more affordable and easier to work with, it’s less durable and may appear manufactured to the trained eye.

Brick and stone are durable, low-maintenance materials for siding and walls that offer excellent insulation, aesthetic appeal, and can increase property value.

Cutting stone comes with a number of safety hazards. First and foremost, if you’re not comfortable with the equipment required to cut stone, including blades and grinders, you could easily injure yourself. The heavy machinery also poses a risk to your ears if you don’t wear proper ear protection; similarly, you need to wear eye protection to keep debris from irritating your eyes.

However, the biggest risk from cutting stone comes from the stone dust. When breathed in, stone dust can be a huge hazard to your lungs. Always wear a face mask when cutting stone to prevent inhaling stone dust, and thoroughly clean the work area when you are finished.

To avoid injury, we recommend hiring a stone-cutting professional, rather than attempting this job yourself.
