Small jobs welcome

"I have had loose pavers on my front porch for years. My son tried to fix them and made a mess of it (thank goodness he lives in Manhattan!). My neighbor told me he would repair it for 4 years. I finally got online and Carey at Wind River Masonry came to the rescue. They were ontime. Hardworking. The repair my son did made the job a lot more difficult. They were pleasant, offered to take in our garbage bins, just great guys! I would recommend them highly. I enjoyed reading other reviews by happy clients. Very pleased! Thank you Angi!"

"A&I concrete is great! They installed a new concrete driveway along side our garage and it turned out beautifully! Israel and his crew did a sidewalk from the front of our house to the back a few years ago and it still looks brand new - no cracks or pitting so of course we wanted him to do our driveway. I would definitely hire them again."

"I was satisfied with the work completed but thought the amount charged was rather high for the length of time needed to complete the work. $800 for at most a two hour job by two men to repair cracks in the exterior brick mortar."

"The crew tackling my patio flooring were hard working, efficient and very courteous. My patio looks beautiful. I would highly recommend this Legacy Pavers team. Side note: They were really kind to my annoying puppies and made me feel like they enjoyed working at my house and helping me out!"

"I am so happy with TMV Concrete and Landscaping. Their knowledge in concrete is unmatched. They listened to every detail I wanted done and I couldn’t be more happier with the results. They were very trustworthy & professional with quick service and keeping me up to date on when the job should be completed, which they managed to get my project done before the due date we agreed on (as weather permitted). Keep up the great work TMV! You have a life-long customer in me."

Masonry questions, answered by experts

A well-made brick wall can last up to 100 years if maintained properly, which includes regularly repairing the mortar every 30 to 50 years. If your brick wall is under 30 years old and is already showing signs of repair, it may be due to poor brickwork and installation. Extreme weather conditions can also accelerate a brick wall’s life span (especially the exterior of a house).

A fireplace is, by definition, an enclosed space where you burn wood or other fuel for the purpose of generating light and heat. A firepit burns wood and is much less expensive to build, but they aren’t technically a fireplace as it isn’t enclosed. An outdoor oven—commonly outdoor brick pizza ovens—often uses wood as fuel, but its primary purpose is to cook food, and you’d rarely just burn wood inside them for warmth or aesthetic reasons.

Common causes include weather exposure, moisture, and settling. Regular maintenance prevents significant damage.

On average, a quality exterior brick stain can last between 10 and 20 years, and sometimes even longer. While it will look its best for a minimum of three to five years, its total lifespan depends on several factors. These include the quality and type of stain used, the condition of the brick, and the thoroughness of the surface preparation, such as proper cleaning. Following the manufacturer's application instructions and applying a sealant as a final step is also crucial. The stain's longevity can be affected by your location, climate, and the brick's exposure to harsh weather, high traffic, and other elements. Over time, the stain may begin to fade or look dingy due to weathering, erosion, dirt, and debris. Compared to paint, brick stain generally has a longer lifespan.

Yes, it is normal to see some minor hairline cracks in brick or mortar over time, often due to natural foundation settling. However, not all cracks are harmless. You should be concerned and contact a masonry professional for an inspection if you notice cracks that are getting wider or longer, or if new ones keep appearing. Other serious warning signs that can indicate significant structural or foundation damage include large vertical cracks (especially those that widen as they go up), stair-step cracks, L-shaped cracks, and deep horizontal cracks. Factors like temperature changes, moisture, and structural loading can also cause cracks to form or worsen.
