"There was no sign on the vehicle to indicate who the people at the door were. The workers did not wear uniforms or even a patch on their shirts to indicate who they were. My biggest concern was NO masks and no indication that antiseptic cleaner was used. Bugs were left in the light fixture when it was returned to ceiling. I told one of the workers that I was going to be out on the patio. But the crew left without telling me they were going or letting me check their work."

"Overall a good experience. They painted 2 bedrooms and hallway quickly - ceilings, walls, trim and doors. I have an older house with panel doors; they did a very good job prepping and sanding trim, etc. They responded to my calls in a timely manner."

Popcorn Ceilings questions, answered by experts

Small repairs or applications can be DIY projects, but removing older textures, especially with safety risks, is usually left to professionals.

Yes, you can cover a popcorn ceiling, which is often more cost-effective and easier than scraping it off. Common methods include using ceiling-grade drywall, applying a skim coat, or installing beadboard panels to create a smooth, updated finish. Covering the ceiling can also protect you from asbestos exposure if the material contains it. However, it's important to note that this method only seals off the asbestos and does not eliminate it, which could be a concern for future renovations or home resale. If you suspect your ceiling contains asbestos, it's best to hire a local asbestos abatement company to test the material and manage its safe removal.

Older textures may contain asbestos, requiring careful handling and professional inspection before work begins to ensure safety compliance.

The easiest way to remove texture from walls is the soak-and-scrape method. You’ll need to spray a section of the wall with water and let the water soak in and soften the texture. Then, you need to scrape the texture off using a drywall taping knife. This method works best with unpainted walls since paint prevents water from saturating the textured joint compound.

Challenges include potential asbestos exposure, uneven finishes, or damage to the underlying ceiling if not done correctly.
