The saving grace was due to the efforts of my wife that managed their subcontractors and an excellent tile contractor that was brought in to fix the original installation performed by one of Bledsaw's subcontractors. This project began July 16th, 2013 and right away we started off on the wrong foot because Bledsaw showed up 4-hours late to begin the demo portion of the project. Since they were late very little attention was given to protecting the areas of the bathroom that were not being remodeled and the surrounding hardwood floors throughout the house. As a result of this, the second day they were on-site the hallway hardwood floors were scratched and will need to be repaired. The demo of the bathroom took roughly 2-days and part of this project was to remove the corner mounted garden tub and replace it with a free-standing pedestal tub. During the bidding process all the contractors that bid on the project had complete access to the bathroom and were given the specification sheet for the desired pedestal tub that would need to be installed. It was obvious the in-ground plumbing and drain lines would need to be moved to install the new tub, but evidently Bledsaw missed this and refused to proceed with the project unless a $3,800.00 change order was executed. So basically in week one they showed-up late, damaged the hardwood floor and submitted a $3,800.00 change order. After we executed the $3,800.00 change order they contracted a company to excavate the plumbing in the bathroom and this area is surrounded by cabinets and window blinds that we intended to reuse. Bledsaw provided very thin plastic sheeting to cover the cabinets and did not protect the window blinds at all. As a result, the cabinets received a multitude of chips from flying debris and the window blinds were left absolutely filthy. To add insult to injury while carrying out the excavated concrete a worker slipped on the hardwood floor and caused yet another deep gouge in the floor. The next fiasco involved their tile contractor whom after 3-weeks on the job provided some of the worst installation work we have ever seen. Our concerns were expressed on several occasions to Bledsaw's project manager(Carl) whom assured us that their tile contractor was one of the very best and "knew" what he was doing. It was obvious to us he had no idea what he was doing and instructed the owner of Bledsaw the tile contractor was fired and no longer allowed on our property. This episode resulted in a meeting with Bledsaw's other tile contractor whom confirmed the work was "poor at best" and needed to be completely removed and restarted. My wife and I are still convinced if we would not have fired the original tile contractor Bledsaw would have continued and this project would have ended in litigation. At this point in time we are roughly 4-weeks into this project and except for the plumbing being relocated and the demo being performed we have not moved forward at all. Progress finally resumes when their second tile contractor arrives on-site and to Bledsaw's credit he was excellent and within a week or so the shower and bathroom floor is complete. We were so impressed with his work that we decided to have the master closet tiled to match. We thought this would represent a very small extension of this project because the rest of the bathroom could be completed while we waited on tile, but in reality virtually nothing happened on-site for almost 2-weeks while we waited on the closet tile. We can go on and on about all the other small irritants/mistakes made throughout this project, but in short Bledsaw has trouble with quality control and project management. A relatively simple project took 10-weeks to complete due to multitude of problems and we would not recommend them. This is not to imply the end result was not satisfactory or that Bledsaw did not fix everything that was damaged during this process. However, no one should have to go through this and we firmly believe the only reason the bathroom looks the way that it does is due to our insistence. We got exactly what we wanted and in a relatively short amount of time. Now the bad part. I have an "L" shaped driveway that runs from the street to the back of my house. The first 30 feet of the driveway was poured two years ago. The rest was in really bad shape being 40 years old. I told my salesman that the only part of my driveway that I cared about was the first 30 feet, the new portion. For those in the know, that section of new concrete has #3 rebar on 18" centers. Anyway, I came home from work after the excavation of the pool had been completed to find cracks all over the first 30 feet of my driveway. These are not little hairline cracks. These are cracks all the way to the bottom. The only thing holding it together now is the rebar. I called the construction foreman and my salesman immediately. They came out the following morning and took several pictures. I received a call later that day telling me that they were sorry but there is nothing they can do about it. I did not like that answer so I called the operations manager. After a few minutes of him telling me that they are not responsible for breaking anything i hung up on him. I called him back after I regained my composure and had a civil conversation. I was told that we are to provide him with two things to build our pool-a place to dig it and access to that place which was my driveway. They take all reasonable precautions to protect a customers property but sometimes bad things happen. They dig 200 pools every summer and never break concrete. Then he told me that I needed to talk to my concrete contractor because the driveway would not have cracked if the driveway was poured properly. They unloaded a 10000 pound excavator on my driveway. They put down 2x12's first so that the metal tracks did not scratch the driveway. Thats all well and good but it does nothing to prevent stress cracks. After the excavator came the t190 rubber track bobcat that weighs 8,000 pounds. The bobcat made about 200 trips over the driveway as it loaded the dump truck with dirt. I'm sure my concrete contractor would be happy to replace his bad concrete after all that. I made another call to the operations manager a week later to see if he would replace that section, roughly $800. He told me no. So now I'm very concerned. They offer a lifetime structural warranty on their pools. But is every problem that arises going to be my fault? That thought has been burning a hole in my brain for the past month. It's not the money to replace the driveway that is bothering me. It's the fact that Puryear refused to accept liability and basically treated me like I know nothing about concrete or construction. I am a superintendent for a very large commercial construction company that builds schools, office buildings, stadiums, you name it. I paid the actual repair portion. This was a very extensive project, covering about a 4-week period, during which much of my front and side yard was dug up, including landscaping close to the house, as well as removal of about 2'x3' of tile flooring in the master bath and cutting into drywall in the laundry room, two bathrooms, and the master bath. All of this was communicated clearly, accurately and well ahead of time by both Barry, the owner, and his crew. There were no surprises. Exterior excavation areas were well-marked for safety purposes. From the first communication with LeAnna in the office, until the final inspection by Barry, this company performed in a totally professional and competent manner. At the end of each day, work areas in my home were left clean and useable. The crew minimized the time that plumbing was not accessible, and notified me ahead of time. Due to the extensive nature of this project, it could have been a nightmare, but Barry and his crew did everything possible to insure that all went well, and that I was not inconvenienced. He said they contract with another company for the excavating but that they have a desired crew they like to work with. Those men were hard workers and used plastic and plywood to put the clay soil on so we wouldn't end up with mud everywhere and a ruined lawn. Excavation took a full day, then James arrived the next day to do the work which only took a couple of hours. 6 feet of pipe was removed and replaced (PVC) and James showed us the rusty old iron with about 4 feet of roots grown down inside it! Then the crew spent the remainder of the day putting the soil back under the house, packing it with machinery so it would be good and stable. The remaining soil was very neatly packed against the foundation (where it was needed anyway).
The only inconvenience was that the work was scheduled to begin the day before but the crew got delayed and I ended up waiting all day but no-show. I was able to reach John and he told me James and the crew were not going to make it after all. I chalk this up to it being a small company and we all know plumbing jobs often take longer than expected. I actually had two bids, one being a smaller local plumber and surprisingly RotoRooter was slightly less expensive. Coupled with the fact that RotoRooter operates their in-house excavating I decided on RotoRooter. While I would have liked to have used the pipe relining process to avoid digging a 6 foot hole in my front yard I understood that it was not going to work in this case. In addition to repairing the broken sewer line, they had to also repair the water line and sprinkler system that were both damaged as part of the excavation. This happens quite often and, in fact, I fully expected the sprinkler system would be cut so this comment is not a detraction rather statement of fact regarding the process. The only surprises was that the sprinkler system had broken again after the hole was filled in and they had to return the next day to dig it back up and repair it. This took several hours but eventually was repaired. All the staff I met was very friendly. Paul, the Regional Manager, came out twice, one during the initial visit and again during the excavation and repair. Everyone (technicians, master plumber, etc) explained the process in detail and made sure I felt comfortable. There was some confusion surrounding the scheduling of the job but in the end, it was a minor issue. This type of repair will take most if not all the day. In all I was pleasantly surprised by the high level of customer service from a larger name in the plumbing business."},"url":"https://www.angi.com/companylist/us/tx/irving/roto-rooter-plumbing-and-water-cleanup-reviews-125796.htm"},"position":10}]}

"We were having issues with water retention. After looking over the area, we decided to remove about 4 inches of dirt around the house grading down as it went. This made a moat that emptied into the ditch. We also had two mounds of dirt moved, a decline added to the back porch and an area scraped and leveled for our beehives. Price was fair and work was excellent. "

The time it takes to build a pool—and dig out the area—varies based on the pool size and type. A professional excavator will take between four and eight hours to dig a pool. The process will take longer if they encounter large boulders or tree roots. Keep in mind that this is a small part of the process in the long run. You will need between eight and 12 weeks to build a pool from start to finish, including the time to apply for permits.
Most municipalities require excavation permits for any significant digging, especially if the excavation affects utilities or public property. However, permits for excavation depend on your local government and the scope of the project. Hire an experienced contractor for your excavation job so that they can be the ones to deal with permitting, not you.
There is no standard depth, but typically, septic tanks are buried between 4 inches and 4 feet underneath the earth’s surface. There are a few factors that will determine your tank’s depth, including the height of your bedrock, the distance between your home and the tank, and the depth of your main sewer line.
The digging depth will depend on the size of the trencher you use. Even smaller units can dig up to 4 feet deep, which is plenty for a DIY job. However, much larger trenchers can reach a depth of 18 feet and are better used by a team of pro contractors, not a single DIYer. As with all home improvement projects, use the right tool for the job and proceed with caution.
Yes. A metal detector is one of the quickest and easiest ways to find your septic tank. However, metal detectors can be too expensive (costing upward of $300 in some cases), and not everyone has a metal detector just lying around. If that’s the case for you, you can also take a long metal rod and poke it into the ground at regular intervals until you hit something—likely your septic tank lid.
