"I am beyond impressed with Jose and his work. He was one of the first to respond to my inquiry. He was the first to offer to visit my home to learn exactly what I was looking for. His pricing was the best of several offers I received. He was very accommodating to specific requests I had concerning the welded 5' pipe fence with No Climb Horse Wire. His lines are arrow straight following the contour of my land. He custom built two 10' gates, one 3' gate, and meticulously engineered a section of that fence to follow the curve of my driveway leading to the shop. The work was completed in a timely manor despite unexpected difficulty he encountered having to drill through near solid rock to set some of the supporting posts. Jose was quick to respond to and encouraged questions pertaining to the project throughout the process. He communicated well and kept me informed as to what was happening and when to expect each stage to be completed. I highly recommend his services!"

Small jobs welcome

"Jacob responded very quickly. I sent photos to him. His quote was 1/3 that of another Angi contractor quote. Once scheduled, he arrived on time and finished the job within a few hours. He explained the work before, during, and upon completion. Excellent work! I hope we don't need future fence repairs or welding but I'll call Jacob at Shepherds Welding if we do."

Wrought Iron questions, answered by experts

Whether metal fence posts need concrete depends on the environment and the ground they're placed on. For thick earth and areas without significant weather or high wind, you can get by without concrete, but in areas with weak dirt and strong seasonal weather, it's a good idea to install a concrete base on each individual post. This increases the cost but not as much as replacing or reinstalling the fence would.

Deer can crawl under a fence if it has a gap of around 6 inches or more. Make sure to close all gaps at the bottom of your fence to keep deer out, and the bottom of the material should be tightly secured, or the deer will push right through it. As an added benefit, closing shorter gaps at the bottom of a fence can also keep rabbits out of your yard.

The cost to build a fence is about $3,100 on average, but you could pay anywhere from $400 to $13,700 or more. Your cost will depend on the length, height, and materials for the fence. If you hire a professional installer, labor costs typically represent about half of the total cost of the project. This means you potentially can save quite a bit of money doing the work yourself.

Most homeowners who install a wrought iron fence do so because it provides security. The material is sturdy and deters intruders from entering your property. They're also built to last and won't rust if you purchase a galvanized iron fence. So, you don't have to worry about replacing fencing every few years like you might with wood or other less expensive materials. Most homeowners also adore the look of wrought iron fencing, which adds a timeless look to just about any style home.

The most durable metal for a fence is wrought iron. With proper care, a wrought iron fence can last for centuries. This means regular resealing to stave off rust and corrosion, especially in coastal climates with salty sea air. In these environments, chain link and corrugated fencing tend to stand up better to the elements with fewer maintenance needs.
