"It went really well. We installed new Vinyl flooring and Trim. It was very easy to set up, very affordable, and the install crew took care of everything from moving furniture and appliances to leveling the floors and trimming the right corners."

"It went okay. I was not all that impressed with him. I wanted him to come out and do some stuff on some baseboards in the house but he was not able to do that. He ended up working on some other things but I forgot what they were. I will never use them again. He said he would give me a quote on a backdoor but he never followed up."

"Recommended 21 piers to repair our foundation. We have 2 other companies out for quotes. Neither recommended that many piers..one other company even said we did not need any foundation repair. This conservative recommendation was confirmed by a structural engineer. We were disappointed with Real Deal Enterprises recommendations and would not have chosen to do the work with them even if  it was deemed necessary. Also, we did not receive any recommendations/watering plan as was advertised with the deal.

"Amanda was really very good!  At first I was very skeptical, thinking why did I pay money to just speak with someone on the phone about my kitchen remodel project... but after just a few minutes of her addressing some of the issues/questions I emailed to her earlier, I knew it was worth it.  It was very clear that she knew her business and she gave me several ideas that I had not even thought about.  I told her that I would definitely recommend her to friends and I will very likely use her again myself for my next home project!

"The job went very well and I would use them again and recommend them to friends. They were on time every day and very respectful to our schedule and ongoing family activities. They set up a barrier in the basement to contain the dust and removed all of the trash without leaving a mess. Very happy with the results, the new dry wall blends right in with the previous and the trim was also matched."

"Brain responded quickly to my voicemail, asked specific questions about my needs and gave me an estimate over the phone. I had to reschedule our appointment and he easily accommodated the change. He was able to "find" power (the builder had not done this) and wired an outlet above the fireplace. He hung the television/ sound bar etc and concealed everything. He made sure the TV, sound etc were all working correctly... and even painted over nail heads and vacuumed the dust mess.
He probably save me $200-300 over what the Best Buy Geek Squad had quoted ($300 plus get an electrician to get power).
He was very pleasant and a true professional.
I would not hesitate to use BDS Communications again in the future.

Basement Remodel questions, answered by experts

Roughing in and connecting utilities are the hardest parts of finishing a basement, and they’re the parts we typically don’t recommend doing as a DIY project. Unfortunately, your finishing timeline can be extended by weeks while you wait for contractors and inspectors to install electrical wiring, plumbing lines, and heating/cooling equipment and carry out inspections.

You technically can paint wires in a basement ceiling, but there are several important safety and code considerations. It's safe to paint non-metallic sheathed cable as long as the labeling remains visible. You can also paint low-voltage wires and conduit and junction boxes to help them blend into your basement.

However, you should not paint damaged or deteriorated wiring is a fire hazard because it poses a fire hazard. The same goes for painting over high-heat wires that connect to heat-generating appliances or systems. Be sure to avoid painting multiple coats onto any wires, as that traps heat and poses fire risks.

Building up by adding square footage to the top of your home is often less expensive than adding a basement, but it depends on the specifics of your house, your property, and supply costs. Because building a basement requires excavation, it can be a more expensive option than building up.

Whether it’s more affordable to gut a house than build a new one depends on the markets where you'd be buying and selling. However, it’s usually less expensive to renovate a home than to build new construction.

Most homeowners pay between $100,000 and $200,000 for demolition and remodeling costs, whereas the average cost to build a new home is between $139,000 and $531,300.

Walkout basements cost more than other kinds of basements, and can also increase your risk of leaks as well as a loss of insulation, leading to higher heating and cooling costs. Improperly installed walkout basements may lead to structural issues with your foundation, so ensure you’re working with a contractor who has extensive experience with this kind of basement.
