"I called Brent out to locate and troubleshoot a sprinkler system that probably hadn't been used in 20 years. It was like the irrigation whisperer how he located the old heads and water line. He brought the old system back from the dead and it's working beautifully now. Cost was very reasonable considering the skill and work needed."

"We have had a very mixed experience with A.I. Sprinklers. The negative experience centered on moving from an "overloaded" sprinkler head based system in our flower beds to a (highly recommended and encouraged by A.I.) drip water system. We agreed to try the drip water system on a single raised bed. When we returned from being away from the house, A.I had installed drip water system across 3 zones, and not the 1 raised flower bed we wanted to try. We expressed the fact we were skeptical of the drip water system but felt safe moving forward because A.I. guarantees their work, and they stated they would make it right. The drip system did not work for our beds. Because of the clay based earth, water ran off rather than soaking in the ground and water only got to plants within 2" of the drip line. We had to hand water to supplement. We asked that the system be returned to its original configuration within 1 day. The next week A.I did some additional landscaping work; laying sod. We thought they would exchange the systems. Not until 3 weeks later did they exchange the systems but were unwilling to refund our investment in the failed drip system. The owner has refused to call me to negotiate any kind of fair settlement. He has used his crew and son as a buffer. The "overloaded" sprinkler stations problem was fixed with the change of the main valve when the first job was completed. this would have negated going to drip irrigation at the beginning. The balance of the sprinkler repair and landscape work was of excellent quality. There was a leak a couple of weeks later in the sprinkler system and A. I. promptly came back and fixed it for no charge. We would recommend A.I. for sprinkler repair, but not drip irrigation. We would not recommend their business practice of stating they have a guarantee and then only performing some guarantee work and not responding to customer complaints or concerns. We ask that the dispute resolution group for Angie's List intervene on our behalf for a refund of $900."

"I was satisfied.  They did a good job.  It was a messed up yard and they really did a good job.  I was satisfied and the price was very good.  He was doing my neighbor's yard and I checked to see if he was on Angie's List, and he was.  So I decided to hire him.  He came over that day to talk to me.  He was really good.  They were cutting the neighbor's yard and I was doing my own yard, but I couldn't do it.  I asked if they could do the grass, they had other jobs to do but they fit me in that day.  The owner came back in the afternoon and talked to me and left an estimate for me.  I was impressed."

Lawn Irrigation questions, answered by experts

If you use a starter fertilizer designed for this purpose, you can overseed and fertilize at the same time. If you opt to use a fertilizer for established grass or one with a weed control component, it's best to wait at least four to eight weeks after seed application to allow the new grass to take hold and establish itself.

Yes, it's common for lawns to look bare after dethatching. Dethatching brings soil to the surface to create a "bald" look on your lawn. While you may choose to patch or reseed your lawn if bare patches seem excessive, it's normal for a lawn to look bare after dethatching. With the layer of debris that was blocking water, nutrients, and air from reaching your grass now gone, your lawn is likely to grow better than ever.

The best time to plant grass seed depends on your local climate and whether you have cool-season or warm-season grass.

For cool-season grasses (like tall fescue), the ideal time to seed is late summer or early fall (typically August and September). During this period, the soil is still warm from the summer, but the air is cooler, creating optimal conditions for germination and root establishment before winter. There is also less competition from weeds. Spring is a secondary option, but cooler soil temperatures, the risk of a late frost, and less time for the grass to mature before summer heat can make it less successful.

For warm-season grasses (like St. Augustine), the best time to plant is from late spring through mid-summer (typically May and June), when temperatures are consistently between 75 and 90 degrees Fahrenheit.

In general, it is best to avoid seeding during winter or early spring, as cold soil and air can prevent seeds from germinating. For recommendations tailored to your specific grass type and climate, consider consulting a local lawn care professional.

Orchard grass seeds can spread quite easily, traveling with the wind as well as birds and animals. Common grass seed packets, especially in the popular tall fescue variety, may contain the occasional orchard grass seed by accident. Always purchase high-quality turf grass seed without "other crop seeds" mixed in.

Yes, you can typically combine liquid aeration with other lawn treatments. However, follow the specific product's instructions and consider the compatibility of treatments. In most cases, liquid aeration can complement fertilization, overseeding, or weed control programs. Combining treatments strategically can address multiple aspects of your lawn's health and appearance simultaneously. Always read and adhere to the guidelines provided by the product manufacturers to ensure safe and effective application.
