Repairing a broken magnetron usually costs between $100 and $200 or $175 on average. About half of that cost goes toward labor, and the other half is for a new magnetron. Higher-end microwaves may demand larger or more complex components, which could increase your repair cost.

Countertop microwaves are the most common type of microwave. This is because they don't require installation; all a countertop microwave needs is a stable surface and an outlet. Low-end countertop microwaves can be found for less than $100 with high-end models going for up to $700, making them an accessible option for most people.

If there’s already a suitable outlet near the range, you likely won’t need an electrician to install an over-the-range microwave. However, if there isn’t an existing outlet or the current one doesn’t meet the microwave’s power needs, you’ll probably need an electrician to install a new outlet.
