"Look no further because you have found your painter! We have a 2200 square foot home with vaulted ceilings and Victor painted every room top to bottom in record time. We also had him remove popcorn off the ceilings in a few rooms and they are so smooth now that you would never know. He is diligent, detail oriented, dependable and a great communicator. I would give 100 stars if possible. I highly recommend Victor and have already referred him to many friends."

"Bottom line up front: HQ Builders did an exceptional job constructing our new deck. They were professional, listened to our concerns/comments, and created outdoor spaces we love and will use for decades to come. 1. Mr. Bimberg continuously called to update status (i.e.; scheduling architect, permit, etc.) throughout the construction of our deck. 2. When the exterior stairs per the architect's drawings were not acceptable Mr. Bimberg showed up late on a Saturday afternoon to meet with us and change the stairs. The only cost was for additional materials required. 3. When materials delivered by their supplier were of low quality, they were rejected and new materials obtained. 4. The crews did a good job of managing the stacking of materials so our two greyhounds could use the backyard without difficulty. 5. End of project clean-up was great."

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

Oxygen bleach uses hydrogen peroxide as a base and won’t harm wood when using it as a cleaner. On the other hand, chlorine bleach breaks down wood at the cellular level and causes irreversible harm. Although you may not see immediate damage to wood after exposing it to chlorine bleach, its strength and integrity are now compromised.

Generally, these steps are included in exterior house painting:

  • Prepping and protecting the areas not being painted

  • Scraping away loose paint

  • Cleaning off dirt, grease, and debris

  • Caulking gaps and openings

  • Priming with a quality paint primer

  • Painting the prepared areas, including trim and accents with chosen paint finish

  • Adding a second coat

  • Cleaning up the site and disposing of tape, plastic, and drop cloths

Wood stain is typically dry to the touch within 6 to 12 hours, but it is not fully cured at this point. You should wait at least 24 hours before applying a second coat or a protective finish. For surfaces like decks, avoid walking on them for at least 24 to 48 hours, and wait even longer before placing furniture. The full curing process can take from 24 hours to one week, depending on the type of stain. Factors like high humidity and cold temperatures can extend drying and curing times, so it's wise to allow for extra time in these conditions.

Liquid rubber is great for waterproofing, but it can damage your deck if it’s not applied correctly. First, it can trap moisture in the wood if the deck isn’t completely dry before application.  Second, applying it too thickly can create a heavy, rubbery surface layer that peels and cracks under fluctuating temperatures. For the best results, ensure the wood is completely dry before application, and apply the liquid rubber in thin, even coats. A quick inspection every now and then will help you catch any issues early, keeping your deck protected and looking its best.

It’s best to use an exterior latex acrylic paint to promote maximum adhesion to composite decking. This flexible paint type can better cope with the natural expansion and contraction that can occur with composite deck boards. Oil-based paints won’t adhere as effectively and are more likely to crack and peel as the boards flex. Testing whether your chosen paint will stick on an inconspicuous section or a spare board is a good idea.
