He does what he loves, and he loves what he does, and in doing so provides REAL value for his specific niche. Explained everything and every charge beautifully down to the last detail. We had estimates that were much higher, but he was so principled about explaining what was necessary that we were able to actually save money. We had purchased an older house, and the attic ducts were crushed and a spaghetti mess, making the vents dusty, moldy, and impossible to clean. He redesigned and replaced the ducts for an incredibly reasonable cost, focusing only on what was needed. He did all the work himself and was very careful to keep the workspace clean and tidy. Most HVAC companies charge a flat service call fee of between $75 and $150, which includes traveling to your home and inspecting your system to find the underlying problem. Keep in mind that these prices only include diagnostics and the actual repairs will usually be billed separately. If you’re calling for routine service, the service call will be included in your inspection and tune-up, with the total sitting around $150. You should get anywhere from three to five quotes for HVAC replacement to get an idea of the average cost of a new unit. If refrigerant levels are low, it can cause the evaporator coil to freeze up. Low freon causes a drop in pressure, which will make the coil too cold and cause moisture to freeze on the coil. Your system may be low on refrigerant because of a leak. 

Make sure to have maintenance performed twice a year, and contact your local HVAC technician if you suspect your system has low freon levels.

Not if you have a standard unit. Because portable AC units actually work to dehumidify the room, you’ll likely need to drain the unit from time to time—but you won’t have to put water into it. There is, however, another type of air conditioner called a swamp cooler that requires water to operate. If you have a swamp cooler, you may need to fill a reservoir with water and potentially ice. But a swamp cooler is different from a standard portable AC unit.

Your AC might not cool after a power outage because of a tripped circuit breaker, blown fuse, or damage to the compressor or capacitor. If you notice your AC not working after a power outage, in most cases, the breaker has tripped or the system has built-in brownout and blackout protection. Reboot the AC by turning it off at the thermostat, resetting the circuit breaker, and waiting 30 minutes to turn the AC on again.
