"The technician showed up on time and seemed quite knowledgeable. He had a little trouble figuring out the problem but then recommended replacement of the capacitor and the power switch block which fixed the problem. we then discussed the fan motor and arrived at the mutual decision to replace it too. He did not have a motor on his truck but brought one and installed it the next day. I have not received the bill yet as the company sends bills bu email."

"The tech was very knowledgeable and skillful. He had to install the new blower fan into the existing fan housing, but he took the existing blower assembly (fan, motor, electrical, and housing) out to his truck in inclement weather to do the work. I offered up my garage, but he said that he would be fine out in his truck. From start to finish it could not have been more than 40 minutes. The blower unit runs and sounds like a brand-new install. Very quiet. Prior to the repair the blower sounded like a freight train passing through the house. Very happy and the cost was reasonable."

Heating and Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

Signs that your air conditioner capacitor is bad or failing include a range of symptoms. The AC unit may not turn on at all, or it might struggle to start before shutting down randomly or in the middle of a cooling cycle. You might hear a humming or banging noise when it attempts to start, or the compressor might hum without the unit actually running. Other indicators include a smell or smoke coming from the unit, the blower circulating room-temperature air instead of cold air, and an unexpected increase in your energy bills.

On average, replacing an AC compressor costs between $800 and $2,300, but it could cost as much as $2,800. There are a few factors that impact the price of a compressor replacement, including the type and size of the compressor, as well as the type of HVAC system and local labor rates.

The general rule of thumb for figuring out how much AC tonnage you need in your home is that for every 500 to 600 square feet of space you need to cool, you’ll need one ton of AC cooling power. So, a 1,000-square-foot home will need 2 tons of AC power.

The simplest indicator is how long it’s been since your last tune-up. You should schedule an annual AC tune-up each spring. Beyond that, there are multiple signs that your AC needs a quick check by a professional. These issues include higher-than-average energy bills, decreased air flow from vents, higher indoor temperatures, and an air conditioning unit that stays on all the time or frequently turns on and off.

Some of the signs of HVAC issues include rising energy bills, rooms not cooling or heating properly, loud noises when in operation, and signs of condensation. To illustrate, if you’re wondering how to stop condensation on air vents, you’ll need to have your HVAC inspected.
