"I contacted AR out of the blue about 9AM because my AC quit working overnight. My AC is up and running same day just a few hours later! I didnâ t think I would get same day service so I was very happy to be out f the Texas heat! Bruce went above and beyond and even washed the condenser because it was covered in webs. He explained what I should do to as preventative maintenance. Bruce was quick and took the time to explain the problem with the capacitor. Great company. Very reasonably priced. Highly Recommended and I hope I wonâ t need them again, but if I do, I will definitely hire AR again."

"The technician came out when he said he would be there. He was very professional. He identified the problem immediately and was able to fix it using a new part that he had with him. This got me up and running very quickly. He was also able to give me honest information on my air conditioning system. He helped me with a permanent solution and an upgraded system that is working 10 times better than what I had before. Thank you Thank you! Everything was exactly like it was promised. I have confidence in his work and integrity."

Heating and Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

An HVAC system typically lasts between 10 and 30 years, with an average lifespan of 15 to 25 years. The longevity of the system is influenced by factors such as the quality of the unit, usage frequency, local climate, and how well it is maintained. Regular maintenance, including cleaning, filter replacements, and professional inspections, can help maximize its lifespan. Different components within the system have varying life expectancies. For example:

  • Furnaces: 15 to 30 years

  • Boilers: 20 to 35 years

  • Air Conditioners (AC units): 12 to 20 years

  • Heat Pumps: 10 to 20 years

  • Ductless Mini-Splits: 10 to 30 years

The simplest indicator is how long it’s been since your last tune-up. You should schedule an annual AC tune-up each spring. Beyond that, there are multiple signs that your AC needs a quick check by a professional. These issues include higher-than-average energy bills, decreased air flow from vents, higher indoor temperatures, and an air conditioning unit that stays on all the time or frequently turns on and off.

If your central AC is not blowing cold air, you should try resetting the system. Many systems have a reset button. Make sure your thermostat is off, then turn off the circuit breaker that powers your AC. Hold the reset button for three to five seconds, then turn the circuit back on. Set your thermostat to cool and choose a temperature cooler than the room. Your system should turn on quickly.

If your home has an existing forced-air heat system, you can add a central air conditioner to it. An HVAC technician can retrofit your forced-air heating system by installing an evaporator coil onto the furnace plenum, the box next to the furnace that draws in air. Once installed, the air conditioning coils use the furnace’s blower to circulate the air.

Some of the signs of HVAC issues include rising energy bills, rooms not cooling or heating properly, loud noises when in operation, and signs of condensation. To illustrate, if you’re wondering how to stop condensation on air vents, you’ll need to have your HVAC inspected.
