Licensed irrigators; TDA commercial applicators; TX Cert Nursery professional; Certified Arborist; Registered Landscape Architect.

"We ask they start service beginning in May. They came out April 30th but did not mow due to rain. They spent about 15 mins edging and blowing and gave me a $220 full month invoice for the month of April. Called them to complain; revised bill for edging and blowing to $50. They mowed 4 times in May, did some light weeding and trimming. Weeding and trimming were not substantial enough - - my wife and I had to go back and retrim/weed. Canceled service. Basically wound up paying them about $275 for what should have been $220. We found even the $220 monthly rate as overpriced considering what services were performed."

"I can't say enough good things about Lone Star Lawn and Pest. We've had them for years now and they never disappoint! We can walk in our yard barefoot without fear of sticker patches or seeing patches of weeds and bare spots where grass should be. We've even had a neighbor ask us what we're doing to have the greenest lawn in the neighborhood. I know that sounds corny, but when you've gone from one extreme to another it's a welcomed change. It's something we haven't had while we were with True Green for years. Customer service with them is amazing. I really appreciate their kindness and professionalism. They really do go above and beyond for their customers. I highly recommend them and that's not something I say unless I'm really impressed."

Lawn Irrigation questions, answered by experts

If you have a beautifully thriving yard with no bald spots, you can choose to aerate your yard once every two years. Otherwise, having your lawn aerated at least once a year is recommended. And in those circumstances where you have a significant amount of thatch buildup or a thinning and bald yard, it's best to aerate twice a year to maintain a healthy lawn.

Throwing grass seed on existing lawn isn’t likely to germinate, grow roots, or become healthy grass. You need to prep the soil, spread fertilizer with your seed, and sow the seed into the soil. Water the seed every day for two weeks to ensure it germinates and grows roots. Be sure to stay off the area and wait to mow until it reaches optimal height.

Most businesses schedule services weekly or biweekly to maintain a professional appearance and healthy lawn.

If your lawn and general landscape are struggling, consider calling a local landscape specialist to suggest lawn amendments, local plants, and hardscape changes to boost the long-term health of your outdoor space. While you may be able to take on small projects yourself—such as reseeding your lawn or testing the soil—a professional can help you build a plan to bring a struggling yard back to life quickly.

Don't pick up or dispose of aeration plugs. They will break down by themselves in one or two weeks. Rainfall will speed this up, as will watering the lawn. Mowing helps, but don't mow the grass too soon post-aeration. It's unusual that the plugs would remain after three or four weeks, but mowing and raking will break them down by that point.
