"Wow! These guys are great. Hired to demolish a wooden deck, they gave me a great deal on additional shrub removal which saved me a lot of cash compared to what two lawn service contractors quoted me for the removal of the shrubs. The price for the deck demolition was competitive, but where they really shine is in doing great work and anticipating their customer's needs. After demolishing the deck and removing the surrounding shrubs they cleaned up the area that was under the deck, built some makeshift steps down from the patio door so that we wouldn't fall by accident going out into the backyard and stepping onto the deck that is no longer there. They even built some steps down to the ground from the doggie door so that our little tripod dog could get down there without having to jump. Eventually we're putting in a reinforced concrete patio and a hot tub and I will definitely be calling Mark at Barred Rock Group for a quote on the cement. I highly recommend these guys."

"Geraldo was a pleasure to work with. He installed a concrete pad to expand our driveway and a concrete pad for a storage shed. Both of these projects involved obtaining HOA approval as well as city permits. Geraldo managed the city permits for me in a very timely manner. The concrete work is over a year old now and is in perfect condition with no cracks or sinking. His communication style was very timely and professional. I would definitely recommend Texas Green Leaf Construction and use the company again."

"Jz Concrete people are the best!! I needed my driveway replaced and these folks worked with me, kept me well informed and taught me all about permits. I have a gorgeous driveway and I love being legal. When my ex saw my driveway he was beyond pleased. He couldn't believe how nice my driveway looks, the price quoted or the clean up afterwards. This company is awesome!!"

Concrete Cutting questions, answered by experts

Your typical household tools will not cut a metal pipe. To cut a metal pipe, you’d need more specialized tools like a pipe cutter or circular saw. Do not attempt to use these tools without taking proper safety precautions and wearing safety gear. It’s usually safer to let a pro cut a metal pipe, especially if you’re not confident in your skills with a heavy-duty saw.

Cutting round ductwork requires precision and the right tools. A duct cutter, specifically designed for circular ducts, is ideal. First, mark the cutting line on the duct using a measuring tape and pencil. Then, position the duct cutter's blade on the marked line. Apply steady pressure, rotating the cutter around the duct. The sharp blade creates a clean, precise cut. Alternatively, a reciprocating saw with a metal-cutting blade can be used for larger round ducts. Ensure the duct is securely held in place while making the cut to prevent slips and maintain accuracy.

Since water heaters are primarily made of metal, they’re commonly accepted by scrap yards and collectors. Don’t expect to fetch a high price, though—water heaters are mostly steel and aluminum, which aren’t high-value metals. Some components are made of more valuable metals, like brass and copper, but they’re a small portion of the heater and won’t affect the price much.

While a high-speed circular saw will cut through metal, and even cut through multiple sheets at once, the fast-spinning saw blades create a lot of heat. This heat can damage paint and other protective coatings, leading to serious problems like rust over time. The cost to paint a metal roof again to avoid this damage is typically an additional $0.50 to $1 per square foot.

You should not do your own welding unless you have the proper training and experience. Most home electrical systems can only handle MIG welding, which creates weaker bonds than TIG welding and won’t work on certain metals or metal thicknesses. Both welding forms usually require the use of shielding gas, which can be dangerous to store at home. Additionally, welding machines create temperatures of over 3,000 degrees, and the sparks can blind you if you don’t have the proper equipment. As such, it’s usually better to hire a professional welder for your welding projects.
