"James, the owner of the company was quick to come out with one of his expert crew members so that they could accurately access what equipment they would need to use to safely take down the two large trees in our front yard that had become a hazard to our roof. One of the trees was a massive oak that was over sixty years old. We also had a smaller oak tree on the corner of the yard that needed to be trimmed and have the canopy lifted. James was very friendly and professional during his visit and made sure that he understood what we specifically wanted done. Because of the massive size of the tree, it required the use of a bucket truck, and rigging. Branch Boss Tree Company has the proper equipment and a sufficient crew of men to handle the task expertly. James submitted a written proposal the same day that he came out to meet us. We were able to sign it and submit it back the same day and we paid only a deposit of 10%. We were put on the work schedule promptly. They came out and took care of all of the trees, and even raked up all the small debris and cleaned everything up so that the yard and sidewalks were clear. The yard was left looking great, and they didn't accept my check for the balance until the work was all done except the last part of the clean up. My cousin saw my yard and was so impressed that he asked for the name of the company in case he wanted some work done on his yard and tree! I would gladly hire Branch Boss Tree Company for any future tree or shrub work in my yard."

Arborists questions, answered by experts

You may wonder whether tree removal is tax deductible: Tree removal is not tax-deductible for homeowners unless it's related to a federally declared disaster. In that case, the cost may qualify as a casualty loss. However, if you own a commercial property, like a rental home, tree removal could be deductible if it's necessary for safety, maintenance, or part of a larger capital improvement project, and you must hire a professional tree removal service and keep documentation. Always consult a tax professional beforehand to see if you qualify.

Generally, you do not have the right to take fruit from a neighbor's tree, even if the branches overhang your property. The fruit is considered the property of the tree's owner. While you may have the right to trim branches that cross into your yard, the fruit on them typically still belongs to your neighbor. However, laws can vary by state and municipality. In some areas, branches that extend into your yard or trees that straddle a property line may entitle you to some of the fruit. The best course of action is to speak with your neighbor, as they may be happy to share. If a conversation is not possible, check your local regulations before picking any fruit.

You should plant trees at least 15 to 20 feet away from your house, and more if the tree will grow large and spread its limbs. Trees pose several dangers to houses when planted too close. They can litter the roof with leaves and branches, create fire hazards, make a ladder for larger pests, and even damage the foundation as their roots grow.

It’s possible to transplant trees as tall as 50 feet when an experienced tree planting service uses the right equipment. However, a tree with a trunk larger than two or three inches in diameter needs to be handled by a professional in order to yield successful transplanting results. Consulting a tree planting professional is the best way to tell if your large tree can be safely transplanted.

The ideal time to prune a tree depends on the type of tree. Typically, late winter or early spring is a good time to prune but isn't always the case for "towering trees." It's best to trim when trees are dormant and before blooms appear but can vary depending on the tree type. It's always best to research the type of tree or ask a professional tree trimmer to determine when is the perfect time to prune your tree.
