"Kevin Rex and Thomas are the Most Experienced, Professional, Diligent, Determined Punctual, Dependable and Likable Plumbers/Tradesmen we’ve ever worked with. My 86-year-old Mother bought a 50-year-old house with same owners for 50 years who had never updated nor maintained any of the toilets, sinks or HVAC. There were numerous plumbing problems with the old house. My husband & I care for the needs & repairs in my Mothers Life. We called another local plumber that stood us up twice for two weeks. I refused to work with them when they delayed coming a third time. I went online to get a plumber to my mothers house that day! (This was already 4:45 pm) Kevin answered for Leak Stop and he said Thomas would come over after his last appointment. Thomas unclogged 4 sinks with 50 years of Slime and Gunk. He permanently repaired a toilet that had previously overflowed several times because the Handle got stuck in UPposition. There was damp carpet in the master closet. Thomas did a Foundation Pressure Test to determine the foundation was NOT leaking. Therefore the damp carpet in the closet was due to the previous overflow of the toilet. We were so impressed with Thomas’s determination to evaluate our water problems Correctly instead of Quickly. He was now working into tree hours in the evening to solve our plumbing problems. We said the kitchen sink had very little water pressure. He went outside to the street to test the Cities water pressure. It was fine. He said it was probably IN the kitchen sink faucet that caused low water pressure. He’s coming back to repair that after we choose my mothers new faucet. We were so very impressed with Thomas’s knowledge and work ethic. Leak Stop did NOT gauge us with the price because it was late in the day and into the evening. Thomas assessed the water stains in the ceiling by going up into the attic to find that the HVAC runoff pipe was cracked or broken. He agreed that he would return the next week when we were there with my mother to repair the cracked pipe. 5 days later, the ceiling over my mothers bathtub collapsed. That was NOT in the area that showed any signs or stains of water leakage. We called Kevin Rex immediately and he said he’d be there within the hour. He discovered a runoff tube (very old) had popped off the HVAC apparently when the AC guy had come two weeks earlier to blow out a clogged pipe. The HVAC had been newly installed two months prior. The AC guy never checked the old tube that he blew out. The AC water drained for over a week onto the bathtub ceiling. Again, Kevin and Thomas worked into the night to tear out the ceiling, remove wet insulation then repair all tubes and pipes that had shown leakage in other areas of the ceiling. Kevin also called an HVAC Pro to insure the repairs were correctly made. They worked five hours strait to repair my mothers ceiling, pipes and cleaned up so well, you would never know a repairman had been there! My 86-year-old mother Loved both of these guys. My husband and I Love them too. They came, worked and stayed in a time of Crisis. They worked above and beyond the call of duty for one day. My mother is in Sunnyvale and we live in McKinney. We will called Kevin & Thomas at Leak Stop for any plumbing issues we may have in the future."

The average cost to install a new water heater is around $1,300, but you can expect to pay between $875 and $1,750, depending on the kind of water heater, the size of the unit, and the professional chosen to complete the work. Tankless water heaters can push your price higher, as installation is more complicated, with prices as high as $3,500. The location and accessibility of your water heater will play a role in the project cost, as those sitting in tight spaces like a crawl space will drive up your labor costs.
Tankless water heaters are more expensive than those with a storage tank, but they come with some impressive benefits that most homeowners find worth the higher investment. Most importantly, they provide unlimited hot water, so you’ll never run out like you would with a storage tank. Tankless heaters are also more efficient, so comparing gallon-for-gallon, you’ll spend less on hot water with a tankless heater. Tankless water heaters are also smaller, require less maintenance, and tend to last longer than storage tank water heaters.
It usually takes a professional water heater installer between two and three hours to remove an existing water heater and install a new tank heater. However, it could take four to five hours if they have to work in a small utility closet or another tight area, like a crawl space. Tankless water heaters have a more complicated installation process, so they will take a bit longer. Additionally, a gas water heater requires a connection to a gas line, and that alone can add about an hour to the installation timeline compared to installing an electric water heater.
It is very difficult and dangerous to install your own water heater, so we strongly recommend against tackling this as a DIY project. Not only will you need to wire your water heater, but you’ll also need to connect plumbing to the intake and outlet. Sweating copper pipes and connecting wiring properly are skills most DIYers don’t have, and even if you do feel confident you can do it, working with water and electricity always leaves the potential for electrocution. Hiring a local water heater installer is well worth the investment.
In most municipalities, a license is not mandatory for water heater installation or replacement. However, we strongly recommend hiring a licensed plumber or water heater installer to handle the work. Licensed installers are far less likely to make a mistake during the installation, which means paying for the experience decreases your risk of a leak and other issues. You can use our state licensing tool to find out if a contractor you’re considering in your area holds a plumber’s license.
